244/45/17s on 17x8 wheel handling q's

Hi all,

I just started autox last season and was running on the stock rims with 225/45/18 hankook v12s. For the winter I purchased (from a member) some kosei k1 ts 17x8 wheels with snow tires. I am in the market for 17x9s and better rubber but a member of our local club has some 245/45/17s *specs for sale. I know they will "fit" on an 8 inch rim but can someone give me an idea of how they will feel and handle? In the end I still want to find a different set of wheels but for the price and the improvement over what I currently have I am having a hard time not acting on this sale. It would allow me to save a bit more up and get a better idea of the difference 20mm makes.

Thanks for the help!!!

Is it the same tire?

More grip...More sidewall flex, less steering response. But most likely faster overall...

The 225 Star Specs will have much better grip than the Hankook V12's. So yes the 245's will feel much better.

Double check your classing rules, if you have a 6MT 17" wheels put you out of stock class.

The Star Specs will be a huge jump in performance over the V12s in almost any size. The sidewalls are so stiff that a 1" difference in diameter in wheel size isn't going to be noticeable to anyone but a full bore expert, even then probably only back to back.

Thanks for the help. I am running in STX. Wasn't interested in paying 1200 for tires that wouldn't get too many uses to stay in a class that would restrict me from making changes on the car I had planned on doing before getting into AX. I already have 17" wheels for my snow tires and I am getting the *specs for 250. Hard to say no to that.
