300zx Na Vs Rx8
First off i'd like to say hey to everyone, i recently acquired my SS RX8. Cant get anything better for the money imo. I've been reading the forums for a little while now, kinda lurking. Looks like a great buncha guys, i've come over from having a 2g Talon NT. 2nd to jump from 2gnt.com to hear as far as i know. First being Murix. Hopefully this board will be as good to me as that was.
Anyways on to my question....
A Buddy of mine has a 1991 300zx na, however his engine recently blew and he installed a "jdm" engine, altho i really dont think there is a lick of difference between the us spec and jdm. however the engine is "newer" in a sense then his old one w/ only 43,000miles on it. i was wondering how i would fair against his car. i am still in break in process. So i am not gonna just go out and do it yet. plus, he's the kinda friend that would gloat about it for weeks on end, possibly till the end of time. lol... If anyone could let me know i'd greatly appreciate it. Thanx...

Here's some information on a STOCK 1990 300ZX N/A:
Power: 222 hp @ 6400 rpm
Torque 198 lb-ft @ 4800 rpm
Curb Wt: 3210 lbs
Final Drive: 4.08:1
Power is similar, has 40 lb-ft more torque and at a lower rpm, weights 200 lbs more and has a taller final drive. RX-8 should be able to take it if the driver is good. Go to a track, race, and then switch cars and race again and let us know.

you should beat him with out any problems, i beat one with headers, intake and exhaust in the rx8 ( only has exhaust) It was close with the mods though

Hahahaha... ok... I wouldn't refer to it as an SS anymore since SS often stands for sequential shift AKA auto, other times it will stand for short shifter but they won't use it in the context you did.
I think you wouldn't have a problem as long as he doesn't happen to have a turbo or two on that JDM engine, or a good amount of other mods.

The 300ZX is something i know and have modded quite a bit of. I am familiar with the VG30DETT but thats for a TT. I replaced my 96 TT engine with the JDM version as well. As far as a the 300ZX N/A goes..if he just has an intake (most likely the JWT one, since you said it sounds wicked) you'll have no problem beating him on a track..the N/A JDM engine is nothing special.

And the usual 300zx NA is not 3210. That is more liek teh oen ith hardtop. An NA with Ttops, power seat, and leather is heavier.

C'mon, Ike, are you kidding? I've never heard anyone on this forum refer to the auto as a SS or sequential shift. Maybe you meant in general, and not just on this board... I figured he meant sunlight silver, because someone else did the same thing a while back. Though, usually the first thing that comes to my mind is Super Sport.
