#70 GT Car Die-cast

Anyone know where I can find a die-cast model of the #70 RX8 Rolex Grand Am GT car?

They're fun to watch on the track, but just in case you don't know, they are not "real" RX-8s, but tube frame race cars with OEM-fitting carbon fiber body panels and 20b triple-rotor engines.

Not much in there is a factory RX-8 any more. 20B 3-rotor, tube frame chassis, entirely new suspension (I think they keep the factory suspension geometry, but the hardware is different), 305mm tires, etc... They are full on race cars.

I got a fantastic opportunity a week ago to crew for the sister car of the #70, the Speedsource #69, for their race at Lime Rock. SOOOO awesome!

The Grand Am series is also far far better than most in terms of fan friendliness. You can be RIGHT there in the paddock watching them work between sessions on track, more than happy to talk to you, etc...

Highly highly recommend it. I also recommend ear protection. The 'pop' when they shift on the sequential shifters from within ~100ft is physically painful to your ears. And the bass rumble of the Cameros of some of their competitors feels like a jackhammer on your ears. Audibly, I'd actually prefer a NASCAR race unprotected than a Grand Am race.

It was remarkable how many people up and down pit lane would just wince, shy away, try to plug their ears, etc... when the 8s and the Camaros would take off from a pit.

I saw Grand-Am at Mid-Ohio last year, and will be going again this year. At high RPM the RX-8s can be pretty painful, too. The Chevys made my chest uncomfortable--I could feel their thumping inside my chest like it was going to trigger a heart attack at close range!
