guess I’ve been watching too many amateur vids on here lately, nice to see someone neither sawing the steering wheel back & forth nor sliding around, great job there bud 👍

my tranny was grinding going into 5th at the last event last year. and i never had to use 6th on track. with the new clutch setup, i can bang into 5th without any issues. and getting into 6th is a breeze also, which i have to do a lot now with the 5.1 FD.

Just posting this here. For anyone looking for a flywheel with some additional MOI over the superlight Mazdatrix aluminum flywheel for improved launching and low speed drivability, there’s a company in England that offers chromoly race flywheels for the RX8.

The Mazdatrix aluminum 7.25” flywheel weighs a crazy 2 kg. The chromoly one offered overseas is 3.4 kg and the starter teeth are integrally machined from the same piece of billet chromoly material rather than a separate ring gear attached to it.

sooooo ... those guys never got back to me, which is understandable as the UK has even more issues going on over there than we do here, but Mazdatrix finally did get back to me. They can have a steel version made from 9.5 lbs. - 22.0 lbs; $750 with welded stock starter-ring gear, $900 with an integral ring gear

but I decided to instead upgrade the 5.5” clutch to a 3-disc for some additional MOI that it and the longer mounting bolts provide. It also has 90% of the surface area of a 2-disc 7.25” clutch for longer wear durability, but without adding too much weight/inertia of the larger clutch.

that's too bad, the chromoly flywheel did look like a very quality piece.

i did clutch dump the car a couple times last weekend at the rack. where they put us on in hot grid was slightly up hill. so when they send us out, i kept stalling if i try to take off normally with low rpm and slightly slipping the clutch. i just rev up to around 4-5k and dump the clutch. it wasn't to launch the car but just to break the tire lose and not have to slip the clutch or stall. i'm also only running 245 R7 tires, but if you run wider A7 tires and try to launch in a way that it would hook up, then that's a different story.

that’s pretty much SOP

since I’m not planning to run steamroller tires/wheels, then not having that extra 30- 35 lbs of rotational weight along with lower effective gearing is going to help

as long as there’s some wheel spin off the line, then high rpm launching is nothing new for me

.
