no need to run race fuel unless your boosting more then about 15lbs on a turbo setup. it prevents detonation.

I've used it. Its expensive, provides maybe minimal performance gains. And makes flames shoot out of your tailpipes!

We use Sonoco race fuel at the track, strictly because it's mandated by Grand-Am but there really is no gain performance wise. Hell, our Sonoco race fuel is only 98 octane anyways...not a big deal to me, back home in TX we have many stations offering 96 octane as premium unleaded. I can't tell a difference.

I don't think it'll make a major difference unless you get your car specifically tuned to run on higher octane fuel.

Engines make more power on less octane...as long as the octane is sufficient to prevent preignition or detonation. Rotaries, in particular, like lower, not higher, octane, all other things being equal...so, zero benefit (and possible loss of performance) in going above the stated minimum octane, per Mazda, afaik

funny,

i ran some 100 oct at 9 bucks a gallon at the last track weekend i was at..

it was only because i had to change a fuel pump, and did not have time to get out of the track to get some gas..

well the race gas ran the same as the 93 oct i ran the rest of the weekend..

btw, for note. i run 87 all the time without issue. car on track gets a treat..

beers
