Atwater Tour

^zing!
I've ended up with a Friday set up assignment, so I won't work on the weekend...which is good, because I have to fly to Mexico first thing Monday morning and the late afternoon work assignment was going to complicate things...it's not like I'd have to stick around Sunday afternoon for trophies or anything, so I can be home early
I just reread...baggy's out? that sux.

I learned years ago to let her go ahead and blame the car setup... Unfortunately for her the data system does not lie, but it also does not make me the bad guy, if you have a bad day the computer will not spare your feelings.

I also really like the 285 Hoosier, but the wear is too much for me for local events. So, the Kumhos are for local events and we'll go back to the phat boy HoHo's in the future...

btw he already called Braun and told him the 285 Hoosiers are not going back on the car. Welcome back to the V710 Mike.

OK, here's the preemptive strike...Jason got by me today, doing his usual job of very fast driving (despite tires that are anywhere between 40 runs and two years old ). I got off to a bad start, making major mistakes my first two runs, and just never developed the rhythm to really push...my last run was very smooth..or slow, depending on how you look at it
Anyhow, it was a really fun weekend, rain storms, wind storms and blowing it on Sunday notwithstanding. It was great to hang out with fellow RX8 drivers and even the racing had it's moments...
EDIT: I forgot, I DID not say the fatty HoHo's are "not going back on the car". I'm not sure where that came from!

Mike,
Thanks for the hospitality--hot dogs, chips/salsa on Saturday. Congrats to Jason, Mike, Matt, and Reza on the trophies. The chase for 4th place was fun! Reza (thanks to a few tips from Jason) stole 4th away from Steve--Reza earned a second trophy on the way home near Buhach/140 thanks to Atwater's finest.

It was good to see him pick up speed on Sunday, but I was bummed that CRX lost the last trophy, he was doing well...I think the "red mist" descended on his last run each day, compelling him to drive maybe just a little too fast
I know Matt wasn't particularly pleased with his times, he's usually faster, but it definitely was a course that, if you got off balance was hard to make it up.
Also, thanks should be given to ULLLLOSE for coming up to run with us mid pack drivers, making it more interesting and fun...
Props to DKNV for driving well in a lightly subscribed ladies class, also!

The tires had 57 runs before Atwater , 3 drivers at the SD tour, 2 drivers at the El Toro Pro, 2 drivers at a local cal club event. Plus they were driven to all those events to the tune of about 300 miles. Even with my big smoky nascar donut on course, someone had to do it as the bag-head was not there, and 8 runs on the Atwater concrete (6 by me and 2 by Stuart) they still have rubber on them.
I am sure Stuart will be getting some shocks and new tires for his car now. It was nice to meet Mike and Megan. They have a good group of BSers up there.

The Kumhos are amazing tires. In the two years I ran my old Z06, I never corded a tire, even at 100+ runs. As a matter of fact, I've paxed really well at AAS events at Atwater on 100 run tires...they don't seem to work all that well on asphalt, though, once you get past about 75 runs, but on that concrete, they seem to hang in pretty well...
I wonder if the 245 Hoosier would be closer to the V710's wear. I think it's clear that the 285 on the 8" rim, while plenty fast, is going to eat up outside edges faster than you can flip them...plus, I don't think they work worth a darn once flipped...not sure why that would be, though?

Anywho, thanks to the BS contingent who shared their feedback on how the course drove, as well as a Big thanks to SFR for hosting the event!
* as was announced at the Tour, Kevin, along with Ron Bauer, are on TV this week - I think it's Speed Channel, Wed. 8pm -- show called 'Setup'.
