Atwater Tour?

I am pretty sure Sunday standings for trophy spots did not change - Ron, Randy, Jason.
On Saturday, Jennifer, running in the ladies class, beat Jason's and Randy's times (not to rub it in Jason, but the lady is an amazing driver). Annie (another amazing driver) was in the 2nd ladies class trophy spot.
Saturday's course was fast & fun, and imo required alot of nerve. Partly because most drivers were carrying so much speed, the kinks and/or decreasing radius turns caused a large number of cones to go flying. I know I hit the rev limiter in a couple of places in 2nd, and it was just thrilling to come through the finish.
Even though I placed last in the ladies class, and I know I have so much more to learn, I must say the RX-8 handled Very Well. My scratch times were as good as many of the Corvettes.

Final standings stayed the same, but Sunday wasn't a blowout like Saturday. I believe Ron and Randy both got 45.8s (I don't know who got bragging rights for the day ), Jason I think got a 46.1, and I got a 46.3. We're all convinced that there were mid-45s out there. I'm a bit hazy on the ladies' results, but I think Jennifer got a high 46.x dirty and a low- to mid-47.x clean; I believe both Annie and Barbara were in the mid-47s.
As an aside, with the exception of McHugh in his Corvette, our times compared very favorably to A Stock's -- I didn't trophy in BS, but I would have in AS with the same times.
Randy's going to be an interesting addition to the class. We need more filler on the West Coast so that trophies go four deep.
Steve
Edit: We were all still struggling with setup, so we're all (theoretically) still going to keep getting faster. Jason wasn't thrilled with the Konis and was trying to dial out push with tire pressures, and we had the car up in the air twice for adjustments during Sunday's runs.

Thanks for the update, Steve! (You too, Debbie )

What a weekend.... Love the grip at Castle AFB. Hated the 16 second practice course. That left me playing with the car during my sat runs, which I was ready to do as this was practice for next weekend anyway. :D The car is much better now on the Konis then it was stock. It needed a bit more adjustments, I think I got it right for my wife. As for the first time in 10 years she beat me on sat. The fact that I coned my first to runs sat did not help either, had to lay down on the 3rd run to get clean.
I think between Randy and I the RX8 can hang with the 968, I know both of us now have about 3 events in the RX8 and both cars will get faster... Question is how much does Ron have left and what if anything will those east coast slackers bring to the table.
BTW, KC, go ahead try running with the low fuel light on in KS.....

Grats to Ron on the victory, BS is shaping up to be lots of fun to watch. AS is interesting this year as well and the S2Ks and Vettes seem to have a nice little rivalry going. Looks like yet more guys with Evos and STis are going to go the way of STU, ESP, and SM. In stock form they're just not well equiped to deal with tight little twisty courses. I bet gearing is causing lots of problems as well Also, anyone know how and why the heck the SRT-4 got thrown in STU rather than STX which seems like it's a better fit for and tyhe class I assumed it fell into?

Yeah, nice results out there... good job Ron and Jennifer. I like a battle. :D Things are shaping up pretty well in many classes.
Jason... Only on the last run pulling up to the start line did the light come on... I wouldn't start a day with the light on... that wouldn't be good. I *still* haven't had time to throw my Konis on. Maybe Sunday or sometime next week.
Ike... the SRT-4 is in STU because of it's displacement with FI. STX has a 2.0L max for cars with FI.

At 9.4K you get fuel cut.... you sure you were able to look at the tach and know that, in a loaded turn through transitions, you didn't bang the rev limiter? I did it once last week seeing what the top speed was in 1st gear... and then 2nd... and it was higher than I thought. It surprised me that 2nd is good until around 67-68 mph.

Yeah, I wanted to see what DSP was shaping up like... Mattucci went to Atwater to go head to head against other fast DSP cars... with great results. It looks like cones sort of dictard the outcome on that one. Definitely another class to watch for a tight battle.

Karl would have won if not for a cone. But then again, if he was clean and Brian was clean on his runs, Brian would have still had it by .135.
But cones are a part of the game. I think they're about equal in car prep and skill where it's would be any given event between them.

Hey... if you guys have a personal beef with each other... take it to PMs. We don't need this crap in the motorsports forum here. (This isn't ClubSi)
You'll meet some day at a national event, and if it's Topeka, I'm going to MAKE you guys have beer with each other at BDs.
Auto-x is supposed to be fun dammit. Crap like this, and you guys take the fun out of it.

Trash talk is one thing. I can understand it, and participate in it myself. :D
But when it goes into personal attacks (and likewise namecalling).... this isn't the place for it. I reported PedalFasters post.... it was wayy overboard.

I feel perfectly justified making one rude response after submitting to weeks of unprovoked personal attacks. But I agree that flamewars don't belong on the board -- next time I'll report instead of responding. Until then, I'll continue merrily reporting on, and speculating about, events as they transpire, as I was perfectly happy doing before I started getting flamed over it.
Edit: Interestingly, so far this year the B Stock leaders have been turning times comparable to, and in some cases, better than, the AS S2000s -- at Atwater, Ron outran Joe, and Randy, Jason, and I all went faster than the next fastest S2000. While I still believe that the S2000's a better autocross car than any of the current BS cars, it seems that perception overwhelmed reality, and that many of the current BS crop could have had a shot even while the S2000 was still around.
