Carrying Tires to an Event
I want to run street tires to the event and changing to the race rubber once I arrive. Is it possible to carry 4 race tires/wheels in the car? A good autocross tire will wear quickly on the street. A road race tire will last longer, but still you would use up a lot of it life on the highway. I can only visualize getting 3 tires in the car.

I'm just gonna trailer the car. It's just faster to leave the r-compounds on the car and load it on the trailer... especailly when not having to change tires on a 90 degree day.
"But it's a stock class car? Why are you trailering it?"
"I only drive it at auto-xes. If something breaks, it's 100% chance that it'll be AT an auto-x. And then I like the idea of towing to national events in my roomy Tahoe."
"Oh."
I live 1.5 hrs away from the closest event site. Doing national events... if something breaks on the road, I'd be paying for a tow anyways....

Put them in bags, stand 2 up in eah rear seat. Unless your unusually tall, you can drive comfortably to/from events.

I've been wondering how I was going to get the 275's in the car.
Thanks.

If we can get a decent hitch for the RX-8 we might be able to follow the Miata crowd and use this: http://www.tiretail.com/

Regardless, don't forget to mark the outside so it doesn't get reversed and you end up with brake dust all over your seats.

Not too sure where to get them, but a buddy of mine who is in construction gave me a few. They are twice the size and three times the thickness of a regular 32 gallon bag. Or, there is always the custom look of two garbage bags that have been genetically spliced together with scissors and duct tape.

I started with the big trash bags last year, but it was a real pain getting them on the tires without ripping them to the point of uselessness. Picked up a box of contractor garbage bags at Home Depot that have room to spare, are real thick and have made life a lot easier.

I did the ikea bag + 275s with ease in the back of my RX8. I drive around town with the seat fairly far forward, so its fine, but on long trips I need more leg room.
Hence the need for the trailer. For those of you that ordered a hitch from hitch-web, here is the latest word I got this week:

OT, I'm amazed what I can stuff in that car. Last night I fit my new lawnmower still in the box in the back seat.

Can't wait to try these tires out on the track!

They fit vertically, 2 in each back seat. I can take pictures tomorrow if you want, but they fit really well. I'm 5' 7" and the seat position went right back to where I normally drive. For those that are taller (most everyone else ), anyone of those tires will fit in the trunk if you want, and you can put one tires in the seat behind the driver. Then the seat will go back more.

I also carry my tires in large garbage backs in the rear seats. Two will fit in each seat with no problems. I just bring a chain and lock with me to lock up my wheels to a fence post in the pit area at my local track for solo II.

Trailer?
How about a trailer like this?
Held 5 mounted tires (245/45ZR16s), 4 jerricans, and all the tools I could use. Plus served as a mount for a CB antennae (no magnetic ones for my car) and for the vinyl numbers required at the event (shoe polish? Oh, please!).
Towed fine at 120 to 140 mph for hours (thanks, Bearing Buddy!) and was low enough not to be seen behind the car unless tires were on board, then only the top 2 inches of the tires were visible. Handles very well, too.
All built on a standard issue light trailer chassis and cost a total of $400.
