Great finish for the guys from South Florida. They just need to keep away from the Pontiacs and blow away the Porsches. That was really a close call when the Mustang lost it right in front of the RX-8.
Am I imagining things our is Edwards a little abusive on the track? I still don't like the way he hit the Rx-8 in the previous race. But I did see the RX-8 bump the Pontiac at the beginning of the Mid-Ohio race. Payback?

I love the bump

did you see how close the damage came to the oil cooler after the mustang incident?

I think the speedsource guys where driving a bit more aggressive, in previous races they where too defesive ( specially Trembley) and that was causing them some problems, they where getting push and hit all over the track, but i like the way they drove here

It was on Speed. There was also Champ car, Rolex Daytona and IRL on TV this weekend so just check the TV listings.

The spoiler of the Pontiac was reset by the Mazda when he popped him. You are correct, they need to be more aggressive and not be pushed around.

A big CONGRATULATIONS are definitely in order!!! What a race!! The move to first that Nick Ham made on the restart after the second (?) full course yellow was just pure bliss to watch. And even after a spin and a 10 sec penalty (doh!! make that guy sleep with his helmet and visor taped down for a week!!) they still managed to get back on the podium and hold off the 06 Banner car which was smokin fast. Excellent day. Also congrats to the team behind the scenes for getting the #70 rebuilt from total disaster in 10 days, another great feat.

Nice braking vs. the GXP.R
Great race to watch. It was much more interesting than the DP coverage.

Definitely a good race and congrats to the Speedsource team. The rx8club was represented by the Columbus owners who caravanned to the event Sunday morning. We sat right at the end of the back straight entering the S turn. It was very eventful!

The #70 car (Hamm and Tremblay) was fun to watch. What surprised me is that it was faster in the straights than it was in the turns!

A few of our members took pics, and hopefully they'll post soon.

it is faster in the straits for two reasons, the rear tires are smaller than other cars so even with a lot of down force they dont turn much better than the rest and they lose a lot of strait line speed, so they just run less win, that way what they lose in the turns they make up in the straits

That was the question of the day. I just remember it was 3rd or 4th full course yellow and everyone was going in for a pit stop. We went to see the board, and #69 wasn't listed. Prior to this it didn't look like it had issues running. At that point he was in front of #70.

Watching Tremblay eat the field in the last 20mins of the race was some good stuff. Congrats to the team on a nice comeback race after being down. #70 was handing out the love taps all day .

I'd also like to know what happened to the 69 car. They really fell off the map....

I tell you what, the pair of 8s had the most distinct sound of the bunch. You can always hear them approaching the back straight. I'm a fan of the American V-8sound, but something about that 3 rotor...phew music to my ears!

Yeah, unfortunately there wasn't any info on exactly what happened to the 69 car. There were about 9 of us from Columbus sitting right at the end of the back stretch of the Esses. The 69 car pitted, changed drivers, and then on his first two consecutive runs RIGHT IN FRONT OF US, spun out in the first S turn. He didn't appear to be going particularly fast, didn't appear to be on a bad line, and he wasn't bumped. On the first spin, he lost some chunks of rubber on the track. I'm guessing that perhaps he had some body damage that was rubbing a wheel or had a broken suspension component? He recovered from the spin, and on the next lap, lost it again in the exact same spot. He never came around again that I saw. I watched the race again when I got home to see if there was any indication as to what happened, but I didn't hear anything.

And Ra is right...LONG before we could actually see the RX-8s, you could HEAR them. It was amazing...

By the way, SPEED Channel is replaying it again Tuesday morning (tomorrow) at 3am! Set your DVRs!!! Congrats Speedsource!

I heard those two 3-rotor Speedsource cars earlier this year at Daytona. Indeed, an interesting sounding powerplant- sharp contrast to the baritone lsx powered Pontiacs.

Congrats to Speedsource! It was great fun sitting at the end of the backstretch listening to those 3-rotors scream down to us!

Good stuff!

one thing its clear they have to do something to the #69 operation, the car is doing good in almost every race then it drops like a rock, one minute you are looking at it in 4th the next they are in 20th

Assentato pitted for the driver change. Longhi got in and drove maybe one or two laps and unfortunately had an offroad excursion. He brought the car in and the crew briefly worked under the front. They quickly buttoned it up and rolled it off to the paddock. They dispersed oil-dry in the pitlane and swept it up. After the race I talked to a mechanic and he said it was a pinhole in the radiator (don't know if he meant coolant or oil cooler - didn't matter - the day was over for that car). My vantage point for the race was just above and behind the SpeedSource pit.
