Does anyone know if the Racing Beat oil cooler and radiator screens are legal for CS?
As far as I can tell, it seems they are legal under section 13.2.A of the Solo rules, but I’d like to verify with you guys.
Thanks.
Should be fine. C&C is pretty agnostic towards material additions (i.e. removing material for "convenience" is very questionable, not so much the other way.)
Well I learned the hard way how low it can go on fuel. 2nd run of the super shootout the car died in a left hand sweeper. needle was between 1/4 and 1/8. Lesson learned.
Other then that is was a great first event in the RX8. 1st in CS and I really love the way the car handles.
But now it is torn apart in the garage getting a new radiator. Next event will be wilmington tour then nationals.

Fuel pump in that particular car was replaced about a year ago, with the OEM updated pump from Mazda Motorsports. Do those things tend to have a life expectancy of that long if raced?
I can honestly say that it has never been an issue for me in 10 years of heavy autox use. Including high ethanol percentage the last two years, which requires even higher flow demand on the pump. My first inclination is to think there's a corresponding issue somewhere if you can't run that low. Maybe it's not the pump, but something else. I can only make suggestions, not fix it for you.
I am not too worried about it. Gas guages can vary between cars and even if I have to run another 2 gallons of fuel its not whats gonna be holding me back.

If anyone is interested I am selling a great inexpensive wheel and tire setup for cs class. I have 17x8 2005 subaru sti wheels that I had the hub bores machined to fit my rx8 along with 245 40 17 bridgestone potenza re71r tires on them with only three auto x's on the wheel and tire package. The wheels are spray painted gold but have lots of chips from having to drive down a gravel road. I can ship anywhere just give me a zip code and I can get a quote. I have $1400 invested in the setup make me an offer.
My CSL driver Amy was crushed man haha we were so optimistic going in, Nationals is no joke!
No joke, I got crushed. Tom (Berry) told me it was inevitable, the first Nationals jitters are hard to get over. My co-driver barely beat people he handily beat at the west cost pros and tours, as well as my friend in STX - he beat EVERYONE in STX by a massive margin at the SD tour, and couldn't beat any of them at Nationals. He couldn't even beat someone he beats monthly here. I don't think any of us were at 100% - but that's why they do these things once a year
I actually got quite a few pats on the back for a midfield finish haha so I wasnt disappointed. I am reconfiguring the car to STX now cause It's more fun to drive that way. I think If I go back out again I might just buy a competitive codrive :-)
The Solo Triad Award has come to symbolize the best of the best in the SCCA Solo world. This year is no different as only six of 75 class winners were able to complete the feat.
So I was wondering what your guys' thoughts are on the Hotchkis vs. Progress front sway bar? Which do you think is better? I'm racing with a really tight budget and can't afford to play around "trying different setups". I'm building up my car one piece a season, at the current rate. :/
A clever idea. I might have to try that until tax refund comes in. But which sway bar would you suggest? I've also heard good things about the Mazdaspeed bar. Thoughts?

The Hotchkis bar is good, but I think a little to big on a stock setup. We ran it on our car as the first mod when we were building our STX car. I was struggling with some understeer at times on tighter elements. It really depends on the tires you will be running to support it. Something like the Whiteline 27mm adjustable bar could be a better option for all around use. We have discounts on them for members as well as other brands. Just use "RX8" as the promo code for savings.
Hi everyone, I just bought my first RX-8. It's the unicorn edition 05 base (no sunroof, no fog lights model).
This is my second year autocrossing, but I went to solo nats this year in a good car and won my class. I'm totally hooked.
I'd like to build my 8 for CS. I don't want components to be the question (Setup vs driver is okay). Are OTS Koni Yellows still considered to be genuinely competitive? It would be great not to spend the money on MCS or Moton or Penskes if they don't make a big difference on this car, but I'd like your genuine opinions since I don't want to have to go through multiple suspension revisions to get it right.
I had my first SCCA event my 05 RX8 this weekend. Ended up 11th overall pax out of ~100 drivers. Probably the last event of the season for us here in the NE
Current setup included a mix of OEM and KYB (Autozone) shocks (came on the car and I just bought it a week ago), 242 run RE717R's, -0.2/-0.3 degrees front camber (frozen cam bolts prevented adjustment), -1.7 degrees rear camber, and OEM sway bars. I think she can only get better from here! Oddly enough, she was still a blast as she is. Not as pushy as I expected either, considering the obvious alignment issue. Transitions were pretty bad, and body roll was epic.
In the spring I'll be replacing the front upper and lower control arms (bushings are shot and cam bolts are frozen), and looking to upgrade the shocks. Still looking for advice on which shocks to go with!
