Drag Strip Tips
Hey all,
First post here. :) Just got my RX 2 weeks ago and I am in love with it. I thought reading about it was bad enough just being in one is a rush every time I go to work. Anyway, my fiance will be taking me to Infineon Raceway come my birthday in April, and since this is really my first car (under my name and higher than like 200HP), I have no idea how to effectively drag.
So if you can provide any tips to this newbie, they'd be gladly appreciated. Glad to be part of the community now.

He means he got his car 2 weeks ago...
Just know that your rx8 was not made for drag racing and is not the quickest car. Instead of launching at ~2500 rpms when you drive normally, have your revs stick at around 6000 rpms while you have the clutch down, and slowly (not too slow, you want to be as quick as possible but fast enough so you keep the revs up) let your clutch out...it will take some practice, and it's not nice on the clutch either. Shift at redline.

Unfortunately...most mods for the rx8 don't give you a significant horsepower boost. You can spend a few hundred on a Mustang and you can get major gains, but this isn't the case with the rx8.
Atermarket intake and exhaust may give you some slight hp increase, but nothing you'll notice (a new exhaust tone may make you want to drive faster than usual, however).
Forced induction (i.e turbo, supercharger) will give you more power. The Greddy Turbo is the popular one that has been out for a while, and more turbos and superchargers are in the making. Aftermarket performance mods for the rx8 take longer than usual because of the rx8's uniqueness in the driving world (rotary).

Where did you get those numbers from Nemesis? that would be a lot of dyno pulls if you compared baseline and each mod.
I guess infineon raceway has a drag strip, but, why not just go to their circuit track? it's an awesome looking track.

Could have sworn I already posted in this thread...
Anyhow, short of FI you're just not going to get much in gains as others have pointed out. Just go to the strip, watch other cars for a little while, pay attention to how things work, and most importantly have fun win or lose.
P.S. As others have pointed out the cars seems to be best with a 5.5-7k launch, experiment a bit to see what is best for the track conditions.
P.S.S. Don't worry about your RT, just concentrate on getting a good lanch and making your shifts, RT has nothing to do with your ET.

^it's ablast...just be calm when you do it...people who get too excited can mess up (i.e. miss shift...which can be bad)
oh and above all have fun...adn don't stress there's always a faster car out there

If you have an RX8 and want to go fast at the drag strip, you just need to follow four steps.
1) Check autotrader/ebaymotors for 2003/2004 Cobra.
2) Contact dealer.
3) Trade RX8 for Cobra.
4) Go to dragstrip and, depending on conditions, turn a stock 12.7-13.0 quartermile.
If you have the funds, substitute Cobra for Corvette Z06 (C6 is best C5 will do), and have the best of both worlds.

Ike, you sure that reaction time has nothing to do w/ it? ET is the actual time you run right? I'm pretty sure the clock starts when the green light hits, not when you start to go. Or is ET your actual time-RT? I'm not a big drag racer myself...
