It's a sports car, not a muscle car. If you really want a dragster, buy a Mustang or something more suited out of the box. With an RX-8, head to the autocross or track days!

Gordon

While it hasnt been put quite this way, the 8's merits as a drag car have been gone over already. In stock form, your better off with something else (as Gord suggested following the title of your poll, whom you then ridiculed), if all you want is drag. It's straitline acceleration is not the fastest out there, and thats what drag is about. Thats why it was suggested to ya to use the search button. There's been plenty of talk including opinions on some very good drivers.

WTF are you talking about? You like to show up as a newbie in forums, and start insulting people who've been here a long time when you know absolutely nothing about them? Just because they hold a different opinion than you?

Whatever, that's pretty pathetic. But, let me explain anyway.

So - you've got $30K to spend on a car, $10K on mods, and you want to buy a car that's great for drag racing. What is more suited - something like a big V8 mustang, or something like a low torque, high revving rotary sports car? That's pretty much a DUH answer. You don't use a Clydesdale horse for show jumping, and you don't use a thoroughbred for hauling a beer wagon.

Why would I be slamming your posts? You have a pretty limited imagination if the only sort of insult you can think up is to toss out "mid life crisis". You're just showing up here and talking nothing but drag racing. I think drag racing is relatively boring. Yeah, it's a mild kick to accelerate flat out in a straight line, but that's about it.

You don't have a clue what track driving is, so here it is - it's driving on a race track - not 14 seconds at a time, but one hour at a time, of flat out acceleration, AND maximum braking, AND maximum cornering on the limit in low AND high speed corners, OVER and OVER for an HOUR. Then take an hour break, then GO again for another HOUR. Repeat all day. All the flat out acceleration you want - plus maximum braking, plus on the limit cornering. All the factors of a car's performance, not JUST ONE factor like drag racing. If drag racing is a rush, then track driving is 10 times that rush per lap, repeated 30 laps at a time.

You really ought to give it a try before dismissing it. I've tried drag racing.

Regards,
Gordon

man i'm not dising that it sounds cool but just because you don't like drag racing doesn't mean that you have to trash it, the ford thing was a joke but man your being an a@@hole about this just back off let the people who have an answer come talk not your bull, the midlife crisis thing- it seemed like you got offended when I said I wasn't one and that I'm the kind off guy who likes to MAX it for 14 seconds a time it's a thrill to me man WTF is the problem.
dude great

is your opinion that doesn't mean that you have to go saying on all my posts that i should buy a stang mustle car and the RX-8
isn't, seems like I'm not the only one who disagrees with you. The reason I'm asking about draging is because that's what I do and that's what I have questions about, so go ask your track guys about the other aspects while I talk to these guys about what I want to do with the car. Face it this car will be used in dragging weither you like it or not, no matter how many times you post "it's not ment for that, you should get a mustle car".
So back off the fact you're going around saying this on all my posts and insulting me is pathetic man, I don't see what is so wrong with me posting questions, that are drag oriented. Man so go do your laps, don't hit the wall and know I'll past you on the straight away now leave me alone man be an adult.

Personal bickering aside, the RX-8 is not a great dragster. If you bought it primarily for the quarter-mile, you're going to be disappointed. It doesn't have a lot of grunt, and what it does have is hard to get to the ground quickly and cleanly off the line.

But what it lacks in those areas, it more than makes up for in others. As a grand tourer, or a corner carver, it's way ahead of the pack.

Um...judging by your posts and obvious INexperience you must be what 16-18 yrs old?

Take your car to your nearest FORD dealer and tell him you made a mistake and you want to invest your money in a straight out drag car and see what he comes up with...If memory serves me right...you can purchase a Mach 1 Mustang for around $30-$35000....you would be much better suited in that...

To say a RX-8 is not a great dragster is lying to you...the RX-8 is NOT a dragster and should not even be classed as one...what the hell car made for drag pulls 14's that you know of?

...no i'm not an ******* either...

2 furious, don't insult Gord or any other forum member here. Gord is highly respected here and you calling him an ******* for saying that the 8 is not a great drag car is unjustified.

He's right the 8 does 14.5/14.3 (with an amazing driver), the car is more a total package, and if you bought it to drag race it around you'll soon find urself beat by less expensive cars. If you really want to show that you can drive take it to a road race or auto-X event where you can learn more about the way a car handles.

So wasn't the thread a question about our opinions on if the 8 is a good drag car???

2-immat..I mean furious. You are getting opinions but you aren't listening, so it appears you have already made up your mind.

So go and drag your car, tear it up, break it, etc, but have fun. And we never told you so.

:D Don't flatter yourself! :p You were posting questions all over the forum - only after the fact (after you whined) did I even notice that a lot of these immature questions were coming from the same kid. I just answered them fair and square, mostly politely, where I saw them. You know, trying to help out and share experiences and knowledge?

It's not my fault if you don't like the answers you're getting. Keep on living in your dream world, it's readily apparent that you aren't prepared to listen to the truth or to anyone who doesn't agree with you. It's also worth pointing out that you were the first in this discussion to throw out insults, like 'cruising man' and 'mid-life crisis'. Instead of discussing the answers you were receiving, you chose to insult. You shouldn't be at all surprised if your threads degraded after that.

BUT - you've still never answered a simple question that has been asked of you several times - have you ever seen or participated in an autocross or track day?

(We pretty much know the answer is NO, but you refuse to admit that you're rejecting those aspects of performance driving out of hand without even having tried them, probably never seen them.)

Regards,
Gordon

I voted yes, because its OK to drag any car. The 8 won't win many drag races without mods though. But that doesn't mean its not OK to test you skill and/or the cars ability (inability?) at the track.

the midlife crisis thing and cruising, was about me I wasn't saying you're one, I was saying that because I know alot of people who think that's all sports cars are for, I meant that wasn't what I wanted to do with it. Sorry if you took that as an insult

And there are no tracks were I live but stright ones so sorry if that's what I've wound up doing and haven't yet gone and found a track that's to your suiting, I never said anything about what you liked to do, you said dragging was boring and I said it wasn't. But hey I'll go find one and tell you my opinion.

If they are stupid enough to want to street race, then they are stupid enough to be made fun of.

He meant that dragonstar should be shocked in a ignoble place for making fun of retards.
