First (?) AutoX Tire question
Well, this coming Sunday, I'll be attending my first autocross on rx-8.
I have attended autocross event while back in my previous ride (Toyota Solara), but I still consider myself first timer...
Anyways, my question is the tire selection.
Currently I'm riding on my stock rim with RE040 came with my 2005 rx-8, most likely it is the original tires, and i'm currently at just under 30,000 miles.
From the noise, and the lack of grip, I'm guessing the tires are getting hard, and getting close to be replaced.
another choice is RPF1 wrapped in Dunlop Z1 StarSpec, I'm picking up on wednesday.
I'm buying it used, and the seller said it still has some tread left.
the problem is that one of the tire has a nail, and I need to plug or patch it upon picking up.
I'm pretty sure that the new one I will pick up would be a better suited tire for the track, but is the patched tire be okay, meaning would pass the inspection?
since it's my first time, I'm pretty sure it will not push the tire hard enough to make the repaired tire be a problem, so my concern is pretty much for the inspection...
my plan is if the repaired tire won't pass, I will just wear out the rpf1 for daily drive, and then buy new one for track maybe next summer or something.
any thoughts?
Thanks
