I know that the rx8 is not a drag machine but my friend wants to take his cobalt ss to the drags so i thought it would be fun to go with him but i had some questions.
1) Do i do a burnout
2) Do i turn dsc off
3) What rpm do i launch at for best time
4) Do i feather the clutch or dump it
and any other things i didnt list that i need to know please tell me

im guessing your on the right of the slip bc a 3-4k rpm dump wont cut a good 60ft like your 2.33.....if you lanch at 6k rpm and feather youll get 2.1ish 60 and run at least 14's......

Hi guys. New member here...just bought a second hand RX-8 (Red). I'm from South Africa...just for interest sake :P
I also have a question...my RX-8 is stock standard. I did a few tests to see what my speed is if I gun it for 400 meters (quarter mile) and I can not seem to get much over 140 kph or around 88 mph. Is that normal or is my RX-8 a bit lazy?
I also seem to have trouble (sometimes, and only at high speeds) getting it into it's gears...it's like the first try it aint there...and then I gotta "force" it into the wanted gear. This obviously makes me loose momentum.
I should probably take him in to have them check the exaust thingy...the center console gets hot...and i don't wanna keep my cellphone in there in fear of the battery getting hot and exploding.
The mazda RX-8 has been my dream car since I got my license 7 years ago at age 18...I love it...even with the few problems I mentioned atop (which I think should be fixable if I take it in to a Mazda dealership).

If you are losing power, and your center console is insanely hot, then your Cat is probably clogged.
Hard shifting could be anything without a more detailed description, but syncro's, clutch, or fluid are possible culprits.

Ah, cool thanks. I'l have someone check for a clog.
I'm not sure how much more I can detail the gear shifting problem. It doesn't go into gear 1st time when I am up to speed (revving high) , yet when I am driving slow it goes in easier. When the car is off or standing still while started, it goes into gear with no effort at all. It just slips into the gears.
When revving high it's like there is something blocking the stick from going into gear, and I have to "break" it into gear...thus leaving the car in neutral for a while untill I can force it into the gear wanted.
Hope this helps...Thanks again. Are there any other South Africans in this club? Perhaps to meet up somewhere and discuss the wonders of the RX-8
