Well should suck this weekend.... Rain today and Sat for sure. Sun down to a 20% chance. So should be a one day event for most of us. If it rains all weekend Goeke should have the advantage as most of us don't have rains.

Almost thinking of taking some of the money being put out there to fill other classes so I can save a Pro for later.

Yeah, I'm on my race tires already... hopefully the drive up is uneventful (it's still dry down here). When are you guys heading up?

Weather is looking ok for Sun... As it turns out even Joe does not have rain tires so we are all going to waste Sat.

Jennifer is the only smart one, she is not going to show up till Sat afternoon.

No Sat PM runs due to weather/equipment issues. Was wet with light rain for BS 1st runs.

Right now top three is:
Jason I
Joe G
Jason M

Going to become a Sun four run event for sure.

Well, with much better conditions, it was a whole new event on Sunday. The course started out wet but was quickly drying thoughout the morning, so 2nd drivers in BS got a bit of an advantage. I think this was the finishing order:

Jason I
Joe G
Anna G
Jennifer I
Brian C
Jason M <- me
Brandon D
Barbara B
Jeremy C

A few notes from my first pro solo:
Working in the 40 deg rain for 2.5 hours SUCKS

I suck at launching. Too much wheelspin in the wet, not enough in the dry. 4 redlights for the weekend. But, somehow I got a .500 and a free pro solo entry!

It's a lot of fun. The 6 runs back to back today was pretty crazy. I barely had time to bleed air from all my tires before it was time to stage again.

Fun event... Every run Joe and I would come in with a new set of fast times. Going to be a tuff year. Was very cool that they gave us 6 runs on Sun to make up for the Sat stuff. I thought for sure Joe and I were going to get killed by second drivers as the course just kept getting better with every run, but we had enough speed to hold them off. Course was great except for the POS 1st gear 180 piviot cone at the finish, I tought they only had $hit like that a stupid local events. Was not an RX8 course as TQ rulled the day, lots of medium speed stuff, good thing someone left the 968 at home.

So the year so far:
Joe +.077 SD tour
Jason +.039 LA Pro
=.038 gap after four days of racing.

Great job by Anna and Jennifer making it a family shut out.

Is it me or it's true that Joe was on OEM wheels at Fontana?! Please tell me so, since I would rather spend the money allocated for lightweight trick rims (>$1k) on a nice DAQ that will serve my autox career well for many years to come instead. Obviously, when you have skillz like Joe does, you can drive on square concrete blocks for FWIW, LOL.

(still recovering from heart attack suffered after learning tire/wheel costs $2.4G, and I would still be light years behind the trophy runners)

Joe ran on some old v710s on stock rims on Saturday since he figured those times would be throw aways anyways. He was back on SSR GT2s with fresher tires on Sunday... sorry, looks like you're gonna have to spend the 2.4gs.

Thanks for shattering my glimmer of hope

If anyone has a set of V710 or any other legal R-compounds in end-of-life/throwaway
state, please pm me I will pick up shipping charge and whatever is
fair/nominal if you are not local, meaning NJ or north CA.

I have no problem spending the dough to get National-level equipments, it's
the driver that makes spending on all these equipments a pointless/expensive
endeavor when I just want to go to National for the experience to learn from the
best.

While lightweight rims do make a difference, they're by no means a requirement to win Nationals; they should be pretty far down anyone's shopping list when prepping a car.

More along the lines of what Steve just said...

This sport is like so many other hobbies...it's really easy to get caught up in gear that you really don't need. Like so many of the rest of them, so long as you have the basic equipment, the largest gains to be had (and by far) are those that are made between your ears.

A better camera may help a skilled photographer capture more images and increase his keeper percentage, but it won't help him take better photos.

Another effects pedal may help an accomplished guitar player create a more dynamic sound, but it won't help him play any better.

Something like lightweight wheels are similar. It may help a decent or better driver shave a very small amount of time and/or make the car respond better to driver inputs, but they aren't going to help make someone a better driver.

If you have the money, there's no reason not to get them...they just won't really help you in a measurable way. If money was an issue, I'd rather spend on it on a whole list of other things before even considering lightweight wheels...especially for a car like the RX-8 where the OE wheels aren't *that* much heavier than the lighter weight alternatives.

What else could you buy for the cost of the wheels that could make a big difference in climbing the learning curve? More schools? A DL-1? A camcorder?
