I would be interested in seeing how the cooling holds up. Other than that I would think there would be no problems.

I am more concerned with intake charge temps.
Maybe i will be the 1st to post about such things.

Good point, will you be logging them when you get out on track?

The guys in the past have had serious overheating problems with the greddy kit. Vented hood helps solve this.

I will be taking the esmeril kit out on the track on saturday, but I will not run it that hard since my tires are bad.

A good starting point for general track improvement would be getting the mazdaspeed bodykit with its large unrestricted radiator opening, a vented hood, and removing the A/C

I never had issues with fuel as long as I kept it above 1/2 tank, after than I could see having problems.

if i remember right there was this 1 person that had his RX8 in D1. he has a water spray mod on the radiators/intercooler to keep it cool, like other has mentioned, vent hood, large opening, perhaps mazmart fan upgrade too.

I never have had a temp prob even in a 106 ambient temp day when I was NA. coolant never over 220F and oil never over 225F.
Keep your overall rpms down by gearing accordingly(very rare that i go over 8K).
I have mazmarts pump, 70/30 coolant, engine bay heat shield (from exhaust header). never run with any screens, have removed the front "bucktooth" to increase air flow there, rb air scoop thing, running rx7 trailng cold plugs, took the hood seal off,
I have the pettir s/c --air water intercooler, snow w/m injection with 100 size pre blower jet, running 20w/50 oil. Track ambient temps should be in the 80's.
I will be watching air intake temps(post blower), water/oil of course and a/f's. I hope I can keep my eyes on the track sometime!
I hope the other fi guys will post their experiences.

The a/w intercooler might give you issues with LONG periods of sustained heavy load?

Yeah, the A/W becomes an inter-heater almost as soon as you start the motor.
When I was tuning Joff's car, it amazed me how high the IATs got when at idle over a period of just a few minutes.
Once the car gets moving and the exchanger sees some air, it gets better, but sustained boost will swamp it almost immediately. The blower is always making a ton of heat, regardless of what you are actually doing.
IATs above ~130° are a serious cause for concern. You loose something like a point of octane for each 10° above that you go, so hit 160° and you might be toast.

I think dannobre will be hitting the track hard this year with his Mazsport turbo machine - this will be interesting indeed. I plan to go watch and video tape it.

Good idea for a thread. Hopefully it can turn into a sticky for known mods for the track.

I will be at Roebling Road in the middle of may. i hope i can data log at the time.
I forgot to add a couple of things--i have midpipe and will be running 1/2 tank race gas in with the 93 octane.
i was wondering about the capacity of the a/w intercooler also---that is why i will have an extra ice chest.
will try to keep temp below 130F
New territory

We have 2 locally built custom made turbo in our club now. One has been used a few times on the track. Initially, there was overheating problem. But after a few changes it is running fine even in start of summer (30 degree heat), for about 10 laps or so.

pettit guys would have a little trouble changing to an a/a cooler since we are a pull through system and use the maf system for tuning. it could be done but i would think you would have to retune because of the change in airflow characteristics.
i think with the w/meth system i will be ok and I also am beginning to believe that any one that fi's the 8 needs one.

I will be one of those people Taka is talking about. Hoping to get to the track in the next month or so for the 1st time since having the kit installed.

I just did a track day this past saturday.

60 degree ambient.

Saw water and oil temps of about 220.

Seems like for turbo I'm going to have to go vented hood, A/C removal, radiator upgrade, meth injection for serious track usage.
