Koni yellow install questions
Alright, I finally have some free time between semesters to tackle the Koni install but I have a couple of questions after reading these old threads
- These are all the parts that came with my Konis. Am I missing anything?
- It looks like I need to drill out the parts I have circled in red to 12mm. Is there anything else I will need to drill out such as the bump stops?
- This is my first time working on suspension. Any other tips to make the install go along smoothly? I already have access to a spring compressor.

Yes you will need to drill the bump stops to 12mm. When you are removing the OEM spring from the shock you will need an allen key to hold the rod in place while you wrench the nut off, this is the thing that took me a while to notice. I just did this install this weekend let me know if you want to see any pics of the install that I took.
I pretty much referenced the thread you linked though and took my time and it wasn't too bad with a partner.

Follow those directions exactly and you will be fine. Here are a couple notes from my experience:
-only the metal "caps" need to be drilled out to 12 mm, not the bump stops themselves. You can do this with a hand drill, but make sure you have something solid to hold them with. A vice would be best, but a pair of vice grips will work in a pinch.
-Don't forget to mark the alignment of the assembly before you take it apart. What you want is to align the three bolt top section with the fork on the bottom. I only marked it in relation to the bushing, but if you can figure it out if you have good spacial visualization (or better yet the shop manual).
-Get the spring compressors as close as possible to 180 degrees apart when you compress the spring for removal. be carefull to get them in the same place when you put the assembly back in, or they will hit the fender liner.
-I tried ULLLOSE's approach for the rear, and could not get an allen wrench into the top of the shock without pulling the shock (unbolt the LCA). A shorter small leg on the allen wrench would probably do the trick.
Took about 5 hours the first time, but would definitely be faster if I did it again.

I had a buddy that works as a tech at a Subaru dealership help me. It went very smooth It only took us about 3 1/2 hours. Car is so much more responsive (especially the rear).
Thanks for the help guys.

just take your time. it's not too "hard", but i definitely wouldn't use the word easy. oh, we had trouble figuring out how to adjust the rear shocks...the diagram just shows you push down on it and turn it...but it just kept turning. you should adjust them before you even get started in case you have trouble...but basically you have to push it ALL THE WAY IN, you'll kind of feel it "catch", then when you turn it one way or the other, it will eventually stop, that's how you know it "caught correctly. ha ha does this make any sense??
