Based on my own experience and people in my region, but I guess if Team RX8 doesn't approve it must not be true

I was planning on running V710s for the tour but wanted to wait to order them. It just gave me a good reason to run Hankooks again. The C70s are on clearance right now and the C71s are only a minor compound change according to the Hankook engineers (tire/sidewall construction is unchanged).

I ran the C70 last year when I first started in B-stock at the middle/end of last season. I'm running against many nationally competitive drivers locally, including Foley. I was able to win 4 of the first 5 events I entered in B-stock and took second behind Jeremy in the 5th (my times started to drop after that with the addition of a bigger front bar). I also almost straight timed David Smart in his Elise at my second event in the car.

I'm confident that the Hankook is a good substitue for the V710. I wish I had data acquisition to back my opinions up, but I never got around to it.

not quite. I've managed 76 & 90 runs on 245 Hoosiers but there was a distinct
lack of grip after 60 runs or so. those steel belts peeking though the rubber might
have had something to do with that...

OK, so I'm 0 for 2...the 'kooks are fast and the 245 Hoosiers don't last...

FWIW, the Kumhos also fall off pretty hard...at about 70 runs

the big mumbo-jumbo oversize tires appear to have one distinct advantage, they take a lot more runs to get down to the same wear level seen on the smaller tires

the 225 Hohos took a real beating at El Toro, I'll be lucky if there are 20 more runs left in them

the 295's I put 10 runs on this weekend still look like new

One more tid bit about the Hankooks. The sidewalls are definitely softer than the V710s. My tire guy can mount them up with no problems at all.

I was running slightly higher pressures than the local Kumho guys (3-5 psi).

Thanks for all the information, I just hope the 710's come in next two weeks. I haven't seen the hankooks on sale anywhere. Are they still discounted?

I just had our purchasing agent check again on the 245/35r18 V710 status. Kuhmo is quoting 3 weeks before the next shipment arrives in the California port. Customs and transit time to our west coast warehouse adds an additional 1-2 weeks. So, best case is 4 weeks to our warehouse to Nevada and could easily be 5-6 weeks if they encounter any delays along the way.

285/30r18 V710's are in-stock if you can find someone that can get them to seat on the 8" wheels.

Again, wishing I had better news, but I don't want to create any false hope.

Good one Mark...;-)

With Hoosier's being produced 25 miles from our South Bend warehouse...the Ho-Ho's are still warm when they arrive Wish I could say that for all tire suppliers

I couldn't figure out how to twist it into a joking jab regarding the 4 year old 265/35-18 Yokohama Advan Neova AD07 inventory

but the 225 A6s I got from the NV warehouse were almost 2 yrs old ...

Joe at the Tire Shoppe gave me a price that I had not seen advertised. It seems that the price of the C71 has gone from $232 up to around $250, but they have a few C70s left at $191/ea.

Interesting to note Thomas's confidence and enthusiasm in Hankook C70. We tried the same compound and were way off the pace, when taking the drivers out of the equation, at SD Tour/El Toro Pro/NorCal Div.

We must not be using the same C70 (purchased from Joe @ TireShoppe), or our driving is just not compatible with Hankook. Anyway, back to V710 it is for us. If anyone has a used set like Jim's, please PM.

FYI, we tested the 275/35 Hooisers last weekend. I took fastest time for anything with doors, beating SS and AS along the way. Finally nailed the air pressures after 8 runs between me and the car owner Jon. Haven't had a chance to mess with shocks or alignment yet.

Paxed 7th with a BSP index in a tough region. Would've been good for 2nd with BS index.

Thomas was only 0.3 behind me on the Hankooks.

Of course, the true test will be this weekend.

With the B-stock index I would have been #3 overall.

Not trying to make excuses here (but that's what we do in our local BS class)...

I was running as the first driver during a day when we were really fighting to get heat in the tires, my co-driver was not putting as much heat in the tires as Jeremy's, and the ambient temperature was definitely rising throughout our heat. Of course, my driving also wasn't exactly stellar on my fastest run from watching the video.

Like Jeremy said, this weekend will hopefully be a better comparison of the tires.

well, h*ll. looks like i'm screwed...
i might as well just stay home and save a bunch of money!

thanks for the warning!

of course with that many runs the tires are probably worn out already so you'll
just be sliding around on the steel belts...

Well my excuse is our tires were larger than yours, therefor they took even longer to heat up

EDJ, please do! I have a hard enough time with local competition

Isn't this the same car that has already taken 1st & 2nd PAX this season on V710s left over form Nationals?

So what you're saying is that the car is almost as fast with fresh 275 Hoosiers as it was with 6 month old crusty 245 Kumhos, and the Hankooks are only slightly slower than the Hoosiers.

That's true, the car did take top pax the weekend before on corded tires.

So yeah, pretty fair assesment.

Makes it sound like less than top notch competition. Or in other words, results from local events are useless.

Let me get this strait. I can buy 275,285,295 A6s, (245 will burn up). I can also buy 275 c70 or c71 kooks that used to be on sale but are now almost as much as hohos and kumhos. I can buy the 285 710s but I will need a team of gorillas to wrestle it onto my lightweight 18x8 because it has sidewalls like a run flat. I can wait 5-6 weeks and hope the 245s come in. The winner is...plan U, buy 20 run 245 710s from tomsn16 and run the h@ll out of them for another 80runs.

I am glad we have a clear consensus on what tire to run.
Thanks to all (most all) of you for your input and advice.
