Long Distance Rallies

Within the next year or two, I plan on entering a modded out RX-8 in the AKA Rally, One Lap Around america, Silver State Classic Challenge, Players Run, Bonneville Salt Flats, and one day the gumball 3000...I already have plans in motion to have the car built with specific parts that I want...

With these plans in mind, I have a few questions...

1) Do you think an RX-8 would be an excellent choice for long distance rallies as far as comfortability, reliability/take anything I throw at her, speed, and handling?

2) What do you feel would be the most important things to do to this car to make it race worthy?

3) What are the things you love most and despise the most about this car, if any?

4) If properly built, do you think its possible for it to run with other Gt/super cars?

5) General feelings, Advice, Comments, and/or Snide remarks on the matter at hand...lol

What modifications are you talking about.

In stock form Heat and Gas Mileage are gonna kill you in a long distance race.

When I say "modifications", I am talking about Body, Suspension, Wheels/Tires, Engine...Tranny...Rear End...Brakes...

Essentially, the whole thing...Redone...

Now, tell me, what about the heat and gas is a problem and is there anyway to fix it?

Cool Gumballer......

Quote -one day the gumball 3000...I already have plans in motion to have the car built with specific parts that I want...

What parts would make an '8 into a GT or SuperCar?

How can you have 'specific' parts in mind, if you don't know what they are?

list the parts out so we know what kinda of mods you're talking about, i.e to what extent, so we can better help you. there are many "modded" rx-8s out there, from stock to track-ready to autocross to Grand-am ST rx-8.. GT RX-8?

OK, essentially, I am gonna create a Turbo charged RX-8...but a tad more in depth heres a list of all the mods I have decided will be apart of it...

Brakes, Suspension, Wheels and Tires

-StopTech Big Brake kit Front 332mm (having trouble finding rear brake kit)
-Agency Power Adjustable Sway Bars
-KW Suspension- Variant 3 Coilover Kit
-RE-AMEMIYA SE3P Front and Rear Strut bars
-JIC Magic Control Arms
-18" PIAA Super Rozza Wheels with Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position Tires

Exterior/Interior Styling

Aero kit and eye lids by AU-TO BAHN SPORTS OR FEED Motorsports Afflux Aero Kit
(both provided by Japanparts.com, any suggestions on Rear Wing/Spoiler?)

Bride or Sparco Racing Seats with Takata Racing Harnesses

Engine and Transmission

Racing Beats Lightweight Rotors
Racing Beat REVi Intake Kit
Exhaust is unclear because I'm thinking of either:

1) Keeping the Stock exhaust and inputting electric exhaust cutouts, but I've read proper flow is necessary for the engine not to explode, but I'm worried about emission.

2) Custom 3" Exhaust- 3" Piping with a High Flow Cat and headers

Turbo System will be from Mazsport, any suggestions as to which stage?

Where can I get super duty apex + side seals, O-Rings, and proper gaskets to make the engine strong and leak proof? From what I've read on the forums, those are two major problems...Will the kits off of mazdatrix.com do the job?

Exedy Twin Plate Clutch and Flywheel
Short Throw Shifter
Carbonetics LSD

Cooling System

Heavy Duty Radiator + FMI
Heat Shield
Water Injection- two nozzles

That is a big list!

FWIW I've been planning on running my 8 in the SSC. I was hoping this year but it is not looking like it is going to happen.

You should also consider changing your final gear so you can run at higher speed at less rpms.
