MXL Pista Data Logger

Hello, i have posted in another area, but I thought someone in this section might have more experience with this type of thing. I am trying to hook up an MXL Pista to my RX8. It is CAN compatible with this from the factory, so i was wondering if anyone new where specific pinouts are. I am looking for CAN +, CAN -, Grnd and then 9-16v dc power. I am hoping that these are available on the diagnostic plug in the cabin...if not i can try to tap in at the computer. Anyway, i will post the link to the thread here

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...2&goto=newpost

there are two schematic pages there but i am having a little trouble finding out what they are telling me exactly.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

that's a pretty slick unit, I was looking at it a few months back

A and B on the B1-H diagram are common to the 4V and 4S PCM pinout connections, which according to this diagram are the CAN_H and CAN_L signals

https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...17&postcount=8

G/B -> A -> 4S -> CAN_L = CAN 1-

L/W -> B -> 4V -> CAN_H = CAN 1+

CAN Bus Topology and Termination
A CAN bus consists of two or more CAN nodes cabled together.
The CAN_H and CAN_L pins of each node are connected to the
main CAN bus cable through a short connection known as a “stub.”
The pair of signal wires, CAN_H and CAN_L constitutes a
transmission line.
L/R supplies 12V power from the battery

the wiring letters like L/R etc. are common electrical wiring color terminology, you need to educate yourself at least on electrical basics if you intend to tackle this on yourself. The manufacturer should be able to assist you as well, seems like I recall them listing the RX-8 info somewhere

Thanks for the info, yes it does look pretty cool sitting on my kitchen counter, but will look much better in my car . I actually bought it for my 85 gsl-se which i use for solo2, but was very interested in this one particularly because i will be able to swap it from the 8 to the 7. Eventually i hope to get AIM's DaVid system, which is equally slick.

I will post pics/let everyone know how this goes.

p.s. - are the "B" and "B/L" wires both grounds?

Thumbs up

Here they are...as promised -

Crosslink

Second one shows what the sequential shiftlights look like (completely adjustable) as well as one of the warning lights (6 total - 3 on each side, also completely configurable for lows or highs and threshold). This one was alerting me to my 0.8 lambda afr (need to reset that value) Overall a very cool toy. Allows you to use the factory sensors through the diagnostic port under the dash. With the help from here hooking it up was pretty easy, once I figured out what each wire (4 total) did. Like i said, didn't buy it to use in this car, but took very little time to fab up the removable temporary panel to mount it (velcro and windlace).

Next step is installing all of the sensors i want on my 85 rx7 gsl-se for auto x/track days.

Hmm...i was trying to find that spec miata dash panel, i entered the part number on mazdaspeedmotorsports.com and got a "no part found" error. Any ideas, i think i may buy one of these to put the mxl in the 85 gsl-se, as i am having a hard time finding a satisfactory mounting solution...anyone have any ideas where to get the mx5 dash panel?

call and speak with the Motorsport personnel, they hould be able to hook you up if it's available

it maybe available form the direct source too if you can determine who that is, the majority of their stuff is rebadged aftermarket parts.

I am so lusting an MXL display, I may make the plunge just for the bling factor ....

Don't you need to know the manufacturer's CAN address output list to be able to select the parameters you want to display on your dash?

Actually, there is a preset built into the program for the rx8, you just need to select which sensors to monitor from the menu. No special knowledge needed.

Do you connect the unit via the OBD port or at the ECU? Does it come with a connector or do you need to slice it in?

no connector is supplied, but i used a db9 connector from radioshack mated up to the obdII cable from my canscan. Worked like a champ.

Hi, in the meantime we installed an AIM MyChron3 on our sport proto, and I could see the limioted list of RX8 PCM parameters available for the AIM dashboards.
I just wanted confirmation that RX8-BREAK was a parameter that tells whether the brakes are applied or not.

I too would recommend those AIM dashes. The MyChron3 Visor is a steal too.

Cheers,

Fabrice

Yes, it is only on/off, not ratio, etc.

That's what I thought, as the brake pedal sensor is just a switch. Sad they can't spell brake (RX8-BREAK it says).
