my crappy dyno run.

Today i went to my uncles perfomance shop (JER) to test his new dyno dynamics. i did 4 runs. The 3 first runs in 5th i got 161.2, 162.4, and a 164.4. What the heck... lets try 4th gear pull.... 160. now i know for a fact that stock rx8s are putting down at least 10 more hp depending on the dyno used. on my car i have, rp supercat(catless) with an hks exhaust, k&n drop in filter, and RB race flash. anyone else smell something fishy? I think i also hear a vacuum leak but it sounds like its coming from behind the engine near the tranny.

we dynoed his rb26 and it put down 230whp which is pretty accurate. GSXR1000 put down 153 and again pretty accurate. Tomorrow i will bring out my mazdaspeed 3 and see how it goes. can i get 1 volunteer with a stock rx8 to come out and do a dyno run??

Dyno Dynamics numbers should be about 16% lower than Dynojet numbers. My poor little CSP miata only made 99 rwhp on one of these.

184hp with all those mods (dyno jet power with 16% as mentioned above) is kind of low, i would have cried to.

up here most rx8's are dynoing a huge 180rwhp on dynojets... HUGE HP!!!!! RAWR!

Someone enlighten me here...why do different types of dynos put out different numbers? Is there any type that is considered more "accurate" than the others?

Dyno dynamics is widely known as the heartbreaker of dynos .

Mine only put down 169 stock .

check your plugs, coils, and wires. We did a Dyno Day a few months ago (19 RX-8's) and saw firsthand how crappy coils can lower your HP figures

I was reading into coils. I want to get aftermarket coils. From what I heard even new coil replacements still give out on some rx8s. Any suggestions on which stock coils to go with?(if there's more than 1)

buy OEM coilpacks. you can get them from www.onlinemazdaparts.com As for the Wires, there's a bunch of options. I went with the Racing Beat wires...

Here's a pick of what you'll need and then a pick of them installed:

Yea our dyno day pulled out some very interesting numbers. Out of 6 runs my highest was 190whp with these mods:

HKS Racing suction, HKS single outlet exhaust, & mazsport fan controller. I was able to make back to back 190whp pulls in 4th gear.

I hit 190 whp as well in 4th gear but I had changed the plugs, coil packs, wires, and cleaned my RB filter just days before.

Check your plugs every 25K miles. (brown is okay, black is bad)

As for coil packs, there's a TSB on how to check them on www.finishlineperformance.com.

before you buy any parts get a compression check, the only thing that will improve that is a new engine or rebuild ...

alright thanks alot for all the help guys! will get compression test and go from there. thanks again guys!

Dyno'd the MS3 just an hour ago. i was looking for about 220whp but managed to squeeze a 208. =) accurate enough. he still hasn't gotten a printer up yet so i cant post up any pictures. but i will try asap.

i did three runs. first run managed to get 207.4 and totally forgot to blow the fan to the intercooler. second run with the fan we made the exact numbers except the boost was a little sketchy. thrid run sprayed some cold water on the intercooler with the fan blowing towards it. it made 208 but the cool thing was that the water made a much smoother power band and a 1psi increase in boost. (peak to 14 and held at 12) all runs were in fifth gear.

imr I think I saw you last night on Brookhurst.

Anyhow, maybe your engine has too much carbon.

Did you have the fuse pulled when you Dyno'd?
