NASA PT/TT thread

Well, I got the chance to walk ECR and it seems it would be hard to shave time off as the turns are tight with lots of elevation and camber changes; the correct lines don't seem trivial, so I'll be back next year.
Plus, the NASA TX folks are great so it is a racing and social event, all in one weekend.

Exciting news for 2014:
* NASA Nationals split in East and West
* NASA East Championship at Road Atlanta
* NASA West Championship at Sonoma Raceway
* Mazda Motorsports sponsoring "Mazda Race of NASA Champions" for the winners of East and West Championships. Mazda providing spec'd Miatas for the race

not much of a drag strip from T3-5 and T7 - T10 (ie it has its fun parts)
though I will agree it's a little more fun to race on than just do TT. Though in the end I'd take EC over Cresson 1.7 or MSRH

Well, a heavy hitter from TT-B decided that he's going to run in TT-C next year and will probably crush everyone... might be considering trying to take enough weight out to move up to TT-B and use a base class of TT-C* and run 275 Hoosiers, if I could make 220WHP I think my minimum weight would be around 2700lbs but that's a lot of weight to take out... maybe need to start a diet for both myself and the car LOL.
Also this got here last week:

Just got my car weighted this weekend (what else can you do after a blown engine?).. Deducting my estimated weight, it is at 2,735 with a hefty roll cage, a full tank of gas and 50 lbs of ballast weight.

I did but, the rear windshield really isn't heavy at all
You're right Team the weight adds up quick but, there's still ~450lbs that can be lost
Well actually I'm not sure what you guys can strip so I guess it's much less really

Yup. "Minimum Competition Weight" must be met at any time; typically, after a session you get asked to take it the scales. I set the car up to meet minimum weight with 1/2 gas tank.

Thinking out loud here.
If I dropped the base class even further from TT-C* to TT-C in order to compete in TT-B my minimum weight might be more in an achievable range for me (I am 6'5" and 255lbs with all race gear on). Maybe like 2800 with me in it and half a tank. Right now it's right around 3000 but still has a lot of crap in it that could be removed. If I did this I would end up dumping those points into more aerodynamics modifications but not sure how worthwhile it'd be. Doing this would also increase my base tire size which also gives me an extra 3 points to play with, bringing the total number of points I need to find out how to use to 10 if I do TT-B with a base class of TT-C.
At this point I'm going to get the new motor back in, see how much power it makes and go from there, it's all dependent on what the dyno says so I can't make a decision until then. The plan is to get everything sorted, get dyno reclasses for competing in TT-C and TT-B, shake down the car in TT-C and if the grass looks greener on the other side I can start taking weight out and mod up a bit for TT-B.
Wishing I could make enough power to be in big bore lol...

Just got these in
Will probably still go with the Koni 2812s but, I couldn't pass these up for the $
Full track Ohlins valved for higher rate Swift springs
Attachment 199324

I use those. They work very well and have taken over two seasons of abuse with no problems.

Judging by the hole in the box it looks like they must of been delivered by UPS ....
I probably should have seen and raised you with a pic of the (10) 240/610-17 Yokohama Advan A005 slicks in FIA Touring Car spec-compound that were delivered yesterday ...

Does anyone have experience with the Hankook Z214 C71/51? Tire Rack has an attractive closeout sale (~$600/set). I'm seriously considering the C71 in 225/18 for use with NASA TT next year. From what I've read, they should be somewhere between the A6 and R6 in time...
Thanks

The following tire sizes will be used as the base tire size for each Base Class for all
vehicles regardless of their OEM tire size(s) or their Final Competition Class. All vehicles in
a given base class may use this tire size (or smaller) without a points assessment:
TTA: 295 mm (2013 Regional TT3/TTA exception only), TTB: 265mm, TTC: 255mm,
TTD: 245mm, TTE: 235mm, TTF: 215mm, TTG: 195mm, TTH: 175mm
an F car modified up to B still is referenced off a 215
a B car still in B is still referenced off a 265
a C car modified up to B still gets stuck looking at the difference in a 255
etc
etc
It still may be very wise though to drop an asterix in your base class if the weight you're given now isn't very achieveable and be able to spend those points on other parts.
