I don't think you want part of the local TTB arms race. TTC is a ghost town locally. Sooo...

Are you SURE that dyno is reading correctly? I don't know of ANY racers making near that horsepower even with a fresh pro built engine with long tube headers and the works. Even with aftermarket ECUs running lean.
I would recommend getting a second reading from another source.
Nice news about Maxxis. I'll have to look into that.
And RX8s are still doing well in PTD. Finally beat the track record held by an M3 which was hard to do at AAA Speedway since it's a power track and the M3 has 15 more horsepower. Look at the pretty certificate! OOOOHHHHH

Congrats on your track record!
Regarding the dyno readings: although it was my first time at the place, I understand many NASA AI/CMC guys use it. Whether the dyno is properly calibrated, I don't know. I can tell you it is consistent. We did 6+ runs! gathering data and tweaking the fuel tables. We ran 229-231 several times with a 232 max. I was surprised by the results.
I got 225 on a different DynoJet before I fixed a bunch of issues and changed fuel maps (using AP now vs RB RACE flash I had before I got the engine rebuilt).
It wouldn't be a bad idea to run at a different dyno, though.

This happened to me with the Miata. It was off by about 300RPM and it read 13HP too high. I just recently found this out. We need to go back and use a timing light to calibrate instead of the tach.

Mmm... They did use some sort of induction sensor on one of the coils, then calibrated based on one firing per revolution (360 degrees). The chart has the APV and VDI dips are the right places. That said, taking RPM from the OBD port would be much better IMHO.

etzilon,
What else have you done to the motor? Those are some great #s w/o porting. Does the car seem to be that much quicker than it was with the previous motor?
Here are the class options I was given. No TTE for me .
Car is currently 174whp with ~25K on reman and straight through exhaust. No tuning. ~3170 min weight. Must compete in TTD or higher. Dyno is slightly suspicious, one car went from this dyno to NASA the next week w/o changes and was up +7%, which would put me at 186whp.
TTE*, 187whp, 3090lbs, 235mm
TTE*, 180whp, 2970lbs, 235mm
TTE**, 180whp, 2825lbs, 235mm
Gingerman is my practice track.
TTE unofficial record is 1:45.4
TTD record is 1:45.5
I have run a 1:48.4 with ~180whp, 3170lbs, and 225mm Z214 C71s (+10). Best optimal sectors is 1:47.6. Best rolling 1:48.2. I think the car needs to be in the 1:44s to be competitive at other tracks.
Current plan is to drop down to 100lbs (-0.5s), compete with 245s (~-0.5s), tune for 10-15 more whp, higher rev limit (~-1-2s). If I can drop 2-3s from mods, that means I only need to drop ~1-2s from driver mod, which I think is possible after comparing data to the TTE record lap.
Does the accessport cost us points? Considering it is not an ECU or piggyback, but a reflash unit?
If the AP is +0:
Tires 245 Z214 C71 or R6 +10
Shocks +3
Springs +2
Sways +2
+17 if I can base in TTD with 3100lbs, 200whp. Based on the numbers in the first page of this thread, I think this is possible.

Engine is pretty standard but everything around it has been changed following common RX8club.com knowledge: MS intake, MS pullies, etc. The big game changer is the exhaust: header + exhaust. From there, it's all about weight savings. My car is fully gutted (hefty cage, though) and probably around 2650 with half a tank (without me in it) - I've got 50 lbs of ballast to meet minimum weight.
AP is a zero point mod.
My classing is almost like yours, except that I start with 7 points (one star): +7 for star, +10 for tires, -7 for 225 tires (base tire 255 due to TTC), +3 shocks, +2 springs, +2 sways = +17

didn't go faster with the swap to scrub A6s and 18s - it was a little bit hot though. Car felt better in the turns but just wasn't pulling that great. Are these one of these cars that will do wierd stuff if it doesn't get TPMS signals? Light was flashing the whole run.

upon further review it was a slightly faster laptime, but only a couple tenths :-/
edit - guess it was the heat, car felt peppy this morning in cooler temps

Didn't want to start a thread so this seems like a fine place to leave a short note--thanks to the RX8 racers that post to this site, it is helpful. We built an RX8 last season, improved it this season, and first race out won the SCCA Majors race at Blackhawk Farms while setting a new T4 track record. This racing forum is a valuable resource.

Ken, I will have to come out for a while to see how you guys are doing. Have obligations for the weekend but I would like to see what times you guys are running at RA. Do any of you have an anticipated target time you are shooting for in TT?

I always shoot for the regional track record. That said.. I have never run Road Atlanta, so take it for what it is.

I know Ken used to run his MR2 there but I don't think he has run his 8.
