This is where Ulllose's point about paying more to go slower starts to make a lot of sense. Those rotors are freaking expensive.

And someone forgot that there is weight to be saved with the caliper as well. $$$

Gotcha Miles. Quick question, any idea what the weight and price are for those 18x10.5" SSR's???

Weight = Supa-Light Yo! 18-19lbs IIRC

Cost = $infinite. Sadly they are no longer made. I beleive that the set Mark bought was one of the last sets available and that was around a year or two ago. I think TireRack listed them as a rear wheel for the NSX, not sure though.

I don't know of a comparable Type-C RS or Type-F but my wheel info resources are very limited compared to when I worked at TR.

You like gold wheels right? These are a slightly heavier version, the GT2, made by SSR that someone on the forum has/had for sale.

Only if you're building a dedicated autocross car.

If you're building a track car that you want to autocross in STX then the point is moot. On the track a STX prepped car + comps > BS prepped car + comps. Well as long as its the same driver.

Regardless the thread is looking for STX eligible wheels not discussions on the merits of the 8 being run in a different class. Since BS may be going the way of the dodo - or the 8 possibly losing its crown as BS preferred ride - enouraging people to branch out a bit might not be the worst idea in the history of this car forum.

Thanks Miles. I <3 gold and bronze wheels from my Subaru days!

Those SSR's are just the ticket. Not looking for a set at this moment, but I've decided that I'd probably like to run in Street Prepared in the not-too-distant future. The current RX-8 would be crushed in BSP, but I'd possibly like to give that class a crack when the 16X renesis is released.

+1 A similar progression occured with FD RX-7 drivers who went from SS -> ASP -> SM2.

I think some people should write letters to the SEB asking for the RX-8 to be moved to DSP. It just got dropped to STX, where it will compete with many of the same cars it would run with in DSP. I think it would be a very good match for DSP BMWs.

Would that be the first set, or the set that fits the car and holds air?

Someone should see what these guys can do: http://www.jongbloedracing.com/

I hauled a set to Wendover last year for a guy, the quality looked great, and I understand they are fairly light for a 3-piece.

I would say wait a few months, can't run an RX-8 in STX yet anyway, and see what sizes that new OZ comes in.

Jongbloed is up here in NorCal and I've known guys who have run their wheels in club racing for years...they have a great reputation for making road race wheels. I spoke to them about making some stock class legal wheels for the RX8 a couple of years ago and ended up not going down that path. The price was a little over $650/ea, as I recall, and they didn't think they could get them below 17.5# using their centers, which they admitted were beefier than many of the more autocross oriented wheel makers might spec. At that point, the $300/ea, 18.4lbs OZ looked even better...

That's almost worth starting an Andy Hollis style thread on sccaforums. I would lie if I said that thought didn't cross my mind...

It has crossed my mind several times.... But as long as I am on the SEB I stay away from RX-8/BS related topics - but it can be someone else's baby.

Put together some BMW/Subi/RX-8 dyno charts, along with weights, potential areas for improvement from stock/ST to SP, and I think you would have a good letter on your hands.

Don't look at me to start one...while I wholeheartedly agree the '8 is a DSP car:

a) The only RX8 I'm driving, going forward, is someone else's

b) I've already pissed enough people off by running with the "XS sucks" idea

I'll bounce this idea around through pm to a bunch of people I respect. Doug Rowse trophied in Spiedel's RX-8 and won DSP this year in a BMW. Pat Lipsinic has trophied twice in a DSP 2.5RS. Nathan Whipple trophied this year in a DSP ITR.

<<My thoughts>>The RX-8 is a dead duck in the current BSP. Even the new "mid-pack" cars of the class (E36 M3, C4 vette) will run circles around it. It also doesn't have the torque or light weight to keep up with a CSP miata. DSP sounds like a good class for it...<</My thoughts>>

Oddly enough I had an rx8 to DSP conversation just a few days earlier... From my perspective it would be a interesting fit, but I think it would likely dominate the class.

+1 to moving the RX8 to DSP. BSP is a cruel joke. Also, I could have plenty of fun in DSP with just a tire change from STU.

I feel it'll be course dependent. The RX-8 is similar in size to the E36 & E46 3-series, IS300, while other cars like the 2.5RS and ITR are smaller. It has an ITR powerband, but E36 BMW weight. I don't think it'll dominate, but it'll give it a competitive place to play. It's definitely not suited for BSP or CSP and it'll completely out-handle the ESP camaros/stangs.

FWIW, I started a new thread to discuss the RX-8 in DSP: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-racing-25/rx-8-dsp-160070/

Another uber wheel
Volks ce28n
18x9
+35 or +40 offset

or 17x9
15, 22, 23, 35, 40, 54, or 63mm offset

In the 15" wheels IIRC the ce28's were lighter than the te37's

You're right. But I wouldn't be suprised if they are the lightest available (at any price). I picked up a 15x6 te37 and a 15x6.5 ce28 someone had for a Mr2 spyder and was shocked. the ce28 was less than 6#!!!!!!!!!!
