Is it possible

My brother just got a 35th annverssary camaro. Its got a vette engine pushing I believe 310 hp. Is there anyway I could beat him. I think I'd definately have to turbo mine to even have a chance right. Oh and his is an auto, mine's stick. Any info would be really helpful thanx!

You can get a lot more HP than his car if you turbo your RX-8. Look at the latest dynos from mazsport.

I think your 8 can do it stock. You just need to launch it at around 4k rpm, and make sure you have a full tank of gas for that extra bit of traction over the rear wheels.

If we're talking about drag racing, he should beat you. His automatic, unmodified, is probably running the 1/4 in around 14 flat. The MT Z28's from the later years were mid 13s.

Your handling should absolutely be better, but Z28's aren't as bad in the corners as I think some of us would like to make them out to be.

Getting sucked in....

Yes they are heavy, yes they are big, yes they have a solid rear axle, BUT you can make crazy power cheap and most of the suspension flaws can easliy be remedied. Been there done that. Here's my old car http://rdupont.brinkster.net/formula.html

In autox, yes the RX8 whips their butts (FS vs BS) but in drag racing or road course lapping, it's not even close. Sorry man.

FYI, LS1-powered Camaros (98+) with a manual tranny, a good driver, and sticky tires at a good track can run high 12 second 1/4 mile times. Throw in some decent bolt-on mods are you are in the mid to low 12s.
