Hmmm, I do a lot of drifting in some of the wide open industrial parks around my house. [read as "off road"]
I rather enjoy the stock tires for this, and I do it "just since it's an RX8".
I also did a nice long single drift on the track at about 80 mph on a long sweeper after a long straight.
Scared the poop out of the guy behind me, but at the limits, the 8 is very controlled for this kind of off-road driving.
So with more modifying outside of stock, I'm sure it's just as possible, depending on what mods are done.

its possible to drift without any mods. I did it with just clear corners (LOL!) but and who, rear wheel drive vehicles are great for drifting. It sure was fun and scared the **** out of my passengers when I drifted turning at in intersection

Damn, I forgot about the clear corners when the car was on stock suspension
It's been raining here, so with the rain modification, it's been easy to drift the car around! I would suggest that if you ever do the rain mod, to leave DSC on and leave drifting to the track!

Yeah, I drifted once and just about destroyed my car [sarcasm]!!!
What do you mean by "thx anyways"?
Did you hear a rumor from one of your friends, or do you not understand what drifting is?

It's all good
Drifting is really the same as track time when you hit the limits of the car, you are just going over that, and putting a little stress on the suspension and drivetrain, not much more than normal driving on the streets through corners.... unless you hit bumps or berms while drifting.... that's the same as whacking a curb at speed in the city.
Most of it is just sliding on the tires, so probably less wear than autox, which IMHO is not that hard on a car.

I saw CZ at driftday with his 8. The instructor did a pretty good job drifting his car but since the weight ratio is so even it looks like its easy to spin out. The guy that made the drift bible said it was harder to drift cars with 50/50 weight ratio. The guy in the top gear rx8 review did a good job though.

FYI, the 8 drifts quite nicely....don't know what their problem was...drifting doesn't mess anything up unless you do...i.e. you're stupid and try it on a road without enough clearance....
Don't try and be Fast and Furious...i recommend taking a class...
i go to free one's in ATLANTA all the time just to be able to do it in a car that's not mine...and plus the Z4 is really fun to drift...hehehe
