I'm actually going to be doing some autocross/rallycross style ice runs with the Saginaw Valley Region SCCA this winter. I might also have a ride in my buddy's 1st-gen MR2 in wheel to wheel ice racing with the Michigan Ice Racing Association.
CnnmnSchnpps, I wasn't sure if you were racing wheel to wheel or solo? Which is it? Wheel to wheel in a daily driver seems pretty scary...

i've been doing wheel to wheel... you can't beat the track time per $, and it's also the only thing that's available nearby (and even that is relative). i went a "full" season with no contact (2 races with AMEC, 1 3-hour endurance race in Maine).
yes it's a little scary at first, but if i compare this to, say, an HPDE day, i think i would feel safer ice racing. the thing is, people that come here know what they are there for (since it's a relatively little known form of motorsport). plus the speed ranges are lower so even if you get in trouble it's likely it will be a fender bender, not a total loss going 100+ into a wall
sure teaches you situational awareness though... gotta know exactly what is coming up behind you. the 3 hour race i did, all the cars were in the same run group, meaning i was on the ice at the same time as the "DOT stud" cars, which had a ton more grip than me; i had to look waaaay back to make sure people would be passing me on the straights
