Nope. Not for $99 per day to get beat by an EVO or STi in GT1.

If I were stock, I'd consider it.

Reasoning:

There are going to be three events. Drag Race, Auto-X and Skid Pad.

An RX-8 with any mods goes into GT1 (where an EVO or STi has 450 points to play with). All they need are R-compounds, manual boost controller and fuel cut defenser and they can be running upped boost, safely.

So that would put a non-stock 8 against them... where the 8 can use up to 550 points.
(R-compounds, front sway bar, adjustable struts w/stock springs and exhaust). I fail to see where it'd be good. If it were a totally stock car.. sure.. you're not running against them.

Auto-X? Boosted A-Stock (Which would be Street Mod) vs. BS (RX-8)
Drag Race? Ever seen a boosted AWD launch?
SkidPad? The 8s saving Grace where it'd be close.

So anyway.. nope.

But the classing rules are just as arbitrary as the SCCA classing rules. I'm interested in doing it this year to see how it goes and whether it might be something to think about for the future...but I'd want to do it in someone else's car that is classed more competitively.

I agree.... It looked good right up till I saw the evo and sti in GT1 with us. An AS Evo or Sti with lots of extra boost VS a BS RX8..... I will pass.

I'll be doing it in 2006 @ Homestead. There are two videos that were "taken" from an HMS event we had there.

btw: you can win the autoX and the skid pad with the 8. The index of an SM car is .842 and the index for BSP (remember you can run R compound) is .839 so they are fairly close.

btw: here are the two videos in full that appear on their site...
http://autox.carlc.com/video/clips/2...unDivx-VCD.mpg

http://autox.carlc.com/video/clips/2...INIRun-VCD.mpg

...funny thing is, the guy who took the videos was never asked for permission to use them

At least you guys can see how HMS looks. Anyone with R compounds want a co-drive?

I'm not looking at the arbitrary classing. I'm just looking at the rules, see where my car is placed within those rules and saying 'fuhgheddaboudit'. It's better than showing up day of and saying 'my car is where? this place sucks!'. :D

My car's gonna be prepped well. But it will never hang with a boosted EVO/STi.

It's not an SM car. It's an AS car with stock struts (which are pretty good), R-comps. However, you can also up the boost now. It's certantly not an SM car.

I'm looking at GT1 (where a BS 8 would be) and seeing a 'fully prepped BS 8' against an AS car with more power than what's normally allowed in AS.

I consider a 'Fully prepped BS 8' to be: R-compounds, Konis, front swaybar and exhaust. And at that, puts you really close to the limit of 550 points. Remember, any modification to the 8, and you're in GT1. Anything more than SCCA BS prep (ie: BSP) and the point total would be too high to remain in GT1... you'd go to the next higher class after GT1.

Knowing the capabilities and limits of the cars at hand, I KNOW the EVo/STi will use the 8 as it's little whipping boy. :D

That's what I'm saying. It's just that the RX-8 is one of the cars that gets shafted by that system the same as plenty of other cars get shafted by the SCCA system.

nobody gets shafted, it's impossible to have a class for every car to win in that's jut the way it is

Not saying 8's get 'the shaft'. I understand that it's not the car to have. I'm just explaining *why* I'm not throwing away $100 bucks to get beat by an STi or an Evo MR. I'd give it $100 a shot tho after I see how points are accumulated through the three events. If the 1/4 mi is a smaller percentage than the skidpad and the auto-x... I'd consider it.

And the drag race is now a 100 yard dash... I'll just be at the 60' marker and the EVO is already at the 1/2 way mark.

I was referring to clydes comment about cars getting shafted by the SCCA

this C&D series is about one thing and one thing only; marketing and making money. If they have to choose between RX8's and STi/Evo8's it's only logical from that prespective to choose the Sti/Evo8 crowd for the obvious reasons.

Contrary to pessimistic opinion, the SCCA does not work that way. Having served in the position I have firsthand experience verifying it.
