random engine cut off while on track

i always have the kill switch off when the car is at home so the small battery doesn't go dead, too lazy to plug in the trickle charger. but during track weekend, the kill switch is always on. but the engine cut will happen through out the weekend even after 2-3 hours of time of track.

This doesn’t mean conclusively that it’s VersaTune, but i am having the exact same issues...so if it talks like a duck, walks like a duck and flys like a duck
its probably a duck.
Steve at VersaTune did say they were “looking into things” whatever that means.
Hopefully it means a new tune uploaded soon..

since i've made this post, i realize now that there's a hand full of people that have the same issues i have that's also using versatuner. all unable to trace down to the exact cause.

I just want to chime in and say I've experienced the same issue with my car using the versatuner. Tried to figure a pattern but I haven't... I did 20 min track sessions without problems, but then had random cuts on the street. Happened when the car was cold or hot, at low or high rpm...
Last flash was done using version 1.13.109.0
I see there's been a couple of versions since, not sure if any of them fix the issue, but my car's in storage until may, so I won't find out until then.
Any news on the beta without launch and no lift shift? I'm not using these features, so if removing them fixes the issue, I would like to get my hand on the beta.

I think a lot of people went with VT because of launch control and no lift shift . How are you guys finding those features ? My feeling was they would be ineffective and a bit of a gimmick.
If they are not valuable and people are having these other issues ....I'd swap to M/E if it were me.......

i haven't tried NLS but i was going to give it a try on track until i heard it might be the cause of the engine cut off. i went with VT because there was talk of flexfuel development coming out soon.

I'll wait to see if they can find and fix the issue in the main software during winter, but if not, I'll be requesting the beta as well.
For my part, I got VersaTune for the user friendliness of the interface, the available tunes and the fact Versatune is still active on the forum and developping tunes and upgrades for the RX8. Quite a difference from COBB which hasn't included the RX8 in the V3 unit and is dropping it's support. As for M/E, I did go through several topics discussing tuning with it, but I found it a bit intimidating a bit rough around the edges for an amateur at tuning such as myself.

the other day i had my drop-out issue again. oddly enough, i was cruising a steady speed on the highway and had a momentary dropout where the tach dropped to zero, the CEL lit up, and all engine power was lost. for the rest of my commute both ways, ran flawlessly

We are working on a fix and need some information from you.
1. Everyone who has VersaTuner installed and experienced the fuel cut at least once, please run VersaTuner and post your ECU calibration. It is specified on the home screen in the "My Current car" box.
Calibrations currently known to be affected are N3M5EK and N3Z2EU.
2. If you are willing to be a beta tester for the fix, please email us at info@versatune.net
Thanks,
Ugnius

We are having difficulty trying to find beta testers to test our fix for this problem. We have not received any response from the ones who volunteered to help.
If you experience the fuel cut and want it fixed, please contact us.

I definitely want to help beta test but I need a rebuild on the engine first. Maybe I’ll get a deal on a rebuild due to the economic conditions. But at any rate beta testing on a worn out engine isn’t a very good testing as so many things could happen. Will update and I will pm you my email anyway so I can get set up for when the rebuild takes place(hopefully within 1-2 months).
Regards- Jake

most of the cars experiencing this issue are track cars, or mostly while on track. it's the off season for northern tracks, and now with the covid19 issue, most tracks are close and events canceled. so it will probably be awhile till will we have viable testers. i'll contact you for the beta once i can get to a track event, but that probably wont be for awhile with everything closing.

Mine is still a street car so I will be able to try the beta in "normal" conditions, but only in May when the snow melts. I'll contact you as soon as my car is out of storage.

I had a chance to install the new VersaTune beta and re-flash my ECU and it does seem to fix the issue.
Granted I didn't do exhaustive testing, or even track testing for the matter, but on the 4 drives I did, I didn't notice any engine cuts. Did a mix of highway pull, city driving, cold start, hot start.
Before it would happen once every drive at random times, so that seems to be an improvement.
I'll continue driving once in a while and report back if anything changes. However, COVID doesn't provide a lot of opportunities to go out...
