Renesis Race Engine Power

Hi Guys

We build race cars and we are looking for an alternative engine for our race cars. We have to run engines built to FIA group N spec which basically is standard internally and standard inlet system. Mods we can make are re-mapping with race ecu Motec etc. Free exhaust system, dry sump, light weight flywheel and engine pulleys. We can remove all the power steering pumps etc and all the emissions and heater piping etc.
What sort of power is possible from a Renesis with the above minor modifications? Any power and torque figures would be very useful. We run long races 3hr, 6hr races so fuel is a big issue anyone have any fuel consumption figures for a race Renesis engine? Also does anyone know what the height from centre of the eccentric shaft to the bottom of dry sump plate would be on the Renesis engine?
The Honda engine we currently use are about 250bhp@ 8200bhp.

Regards
Henry

i think current estimates put the renesis close to that honda engine. most discussions estimate the koni challenge rx8s to be around 260hp.

i know when i go tracking i see 7-8mpg, but that was in my 3100lb car, with 150lb me and 250lb instructor.

contacting eric meyer (of eric meyer motorsports) might be a good idea. his team races in the koni challenge. i dont know how much he'd be willing to share, but he's always been helpful around these forums.

The renesis is the most powerful 13B rotary in NA form. The Japanese tuners have been able to push 320hp on an NA block (I'm still trying to figure out how they PP the Renesis) and the results are out there.

I'll see if I can get someone to come here and post some info.

The OP's in these two threads built RX-8's to Koni Challenge specs - not sure what they'd be willing to share but it might be worth a pm.

I'll tell you this without running MoTec, the NA RX-8 will never see 260hp. As for the KONI RX-8 teams we all are putting down around the same power numbers.
There are a few other teams you can contact also, ROAR Racing, Hickham Motorsports, and Brass Mitchell Racing.

how about fuel consumption - my guess it would be slightly better than equivalent piston engine cars ?

Depending on track, driver, etc. With a stock fuel pump @ stock pressure with stock fuel injectors.

Around 5 minutes per gallon.

mpg will increase greatly if you stay out of the 8-9K range--i can get 10mpg then.
Several engine specialist out there. Also call Mazmart--they build engines for surprising people.

You must be talking about PanSpeed.

They have some throttle change and the intake is coming from the left side. I think the intake manifold is also changed.

It is motec'ed and fully exhausted from engine to tip.

I think they are still talking reaching 300hp rather than 320hp.

The car goes 59 seconds at Tsukuba, the fastest Jap NA renesis.

good thing about the rotary is size and how the weight is sorted. most engines subcome to heat only--so cool her and a 6 hr race is no problem. we have one fella in our little group that has over 6K track miles on his car--oridginal engine and it is a daily driver with approx 70K on it. Top dog in the TTF class with Nasa Se at present--with worn out overheatcycled dot r compounds and just a few bolt ons.
You can get the power you want.
