RX-8 Grand Am GT car PICS ADDED!
Anyone have any info on this? It is listed on the entry list for Daytona practice this weekend. Yes, this is listed in GT and not ST. It is run by a team called Golden Brothers Racing. Just wondering if there is any info or pics floating around as this is the first I have heard of it.
I ripped these from another thread. This thing is awesome!

That would be great, I look over my reviews and team rosters and could not find a 8 in GT, Hope someone else has some more info or maybe an inside scoop. I wonder if it would run an n/a 3 rotor?

GT3 Goldin Brothers Racing
Steve Goldin, Homestead, Fla.
Keith Goldin, Miami, Fla.
Todd Valencourt, Orlando, Fla.
John Thomas, Tampa, Fla.
Big Brothers/Sisters of America Mazda RX-7
And this is from 1999 daytona entry:
72 (27), Goldin Brothers Racing, Keith Goldin, Miami, Fla., Scott Finlay,
Miami, Fla., Steven Goldin, Miami, Fla., GT3, Mazda RX-7, 2:20.981, 90.905
If they are GT3, then they would have run a n/a 3 rotor....as Petit was running GT2 class in their rx7 turbo car
I found the updated rules regarding entry for 24hrs at daytona:

Looks like it will be a 20B. And from the allowed front tires, I think they are classifying it as a mid-engine Prep-2 car.
2-18 Mazda RX8 (Prep 2)
2-18.1 20B Cosmo three rotor (Mazda Spec parts).
2-18.2 Six-speed transmission.
2-18.3 Maximum body width is 73.5 inches.
2-18.4 Front tire 245 /645/18
2-18.5 Additional specifications - TBD.
6-2 Tire sizes:
6-2.1 Rear or mid engine cars under 4.9 liter will use 245/645R18 fronts and 295/660R18
rears.
6-2.2 Front engine cars under 4.9 liters will use 295/660R18 fronts and 295/660R18 or
295/675R18 rears.
6-2.3 Cars over 4.9 liter will use 295/660R18 fronts and 295/660R18 or 295/675R18 rears.
6-2.4 Wet tires sizes: 245/645R18, 275/660R18 and 295/675R18.

It would dispell all myths about track times for the renesis and the 20b...as far as comparing the two for track use. I would venture to say the 3rotor's weight and distribution of said weight might be offset by the gain in performance...Only time will tell.

Well, among a field of DPs, BMWs, and Porsches, the Goldin Brothers RX-8 is currently dead last posting average speeds of 45mph. They must be having problems.
BTW Yaw's r&d is for a SPEED World Challenge race car, not Grand American. Two different series.

Yes, its a 3 rotor
Hey all
Glad to see there is some talk about the car we have spent months building. This was a new street car with 50 miles on it last April. It is now powered by a N/A 3 rotor 20B. It is considered "prep 2" under the grand-am rules.
We had a tough time at the test days, as it was the car's first time any racetrack. We have worked most of the bugs out now and should be much better off come next week at daytona.
It is nice to have a rotary back on the track for the Rolex 24! We are hoping to run the whole season, but that costs $$. Anyone want to sponsor the car?

I was following the live updates during the Daytona testing days. It looks like your car ran almost all laps without any extended pitting, albeit with an average speed of 45mph.
Being an RX-8 owner, it's good to see some folks willing to compete in the 24 with one.
I'd imagine the Mazda-spec 20B puts out around 290bhp in stock trim, which seems like a disadvantage against the S54 M3's and GT3 Cup cars in your class. What's your stance on that? (The company I work for actually services a good handful of the cars that you will be racing against, as well as a couple of the DPs...)
Just out of curiosity, what sort of engine management are you running for your motor? It's a slight odd that Grand Am would require a vehicle to have a complete engine transplant in order to compete in that particular class.
Best of luck to you next week! Make us proud! And while you're at it, ya think you can spare me a set of those widebody fenders? :D :D :D

We really did not complete that many full laps to be honest. It was in / out of the pits costantly. We actually just switched to a Motec system since the test days. The car should be fairly competitive in the horsepower range (with continued tuning over time), but the torque is hard to find. We all know rotary's are not famous for torque.
