Brutal noise: Full throttle in an RX-3 touring car

This may have been posted last year, but here is a great vid of a RX3 with a bridgeported 12A engine smoking past porsches, corvettes and mustangs at Road Atlanta during a Walter Mitty/HSR race in 2013.

My first of seven RXs was an RX3 back in 1973, and back then the RX2s and RX3s were track terrors in the hands of great Mazda drivers like Walt Bohren and Roger Mandeville. Walt and Roger and other hot Mazda rotary shoes would go on to multiple championships in years of racing RX7s.

Just wanted folks to see where the Mazda rotary racing heritage comes from, as we enjoy our RX8s and their racing victories in many classes.

That engine sounds great. I liked the sound of it idling right before the race started

 

That is an amazing car and driver! If only I had 40 more horse power and/or 400 less pounds!
