RX8 Bash ( I think this is the perfect place for it)

Hello fellow Mazda owners, being that I'm one of those constant site hoppers looking to see what's good in other forums, I had to go over to the Altima site to see what's been good there being that I have a few friends there. So I ran across a thread about a guy in an Altima SE-R had completely roasted an 8. At first I thought it was just an innocent kill story. But then they started talking crazy about how those, plus a Sentra SE-R can out handle an 8. They're even going so far as to trying to get a meet going on for a safe competition, possibly on a track for the best of the best, you know, like at Pocono or another track that's a good run......

I personally think that they're wrong. Besides, there's only so much a 3300 lbs FWD sedan can do with 260 hp on tap. and especially a 175 hp 2800 lbs car with a low revving engine. I believe that if anyone is willing to meet up with the guys for a friendly meet at a track or for an SCCA amateur runs, please post the results, I'm most anticipated.

Here's the link

BTW, if this is the wrong forum, most apologies

I don't know mch about the new SE-Rs, but I can talk about the 1st Gens....

On a race track, a properly set-up 1st gen SE-R that has 14 years of development in suspension tuning, set-up and about 800lbs lighter (even with stock 140 hp) would most likely post faster lap times on a road course than an RX-8 at this current point in time. In other words, they're a very fun, easy to drive and very capable track car against other high HP cars.

The new cars? Still might be a drivers race on a road course with the availble torque/HP in the SE-Rs.

In an auto-x? Not even a challenge. RX-8 is BS and the SE-Rs are DS at best, GS or HS at worst.

The Altima SE-R is a quick car in a straight line (0-60 in about 5.7 with the M/T) but out handle--please. Nobody is buying those cars though because at a base price of $29,350--I have a harder time listing the cars that are NOT better than it for that price.

those guys are funny, I think there might have been a shread of correct info in there. WOW my buddy had a 3.5 M/T Altima fast in a straight line but I would not say it handled well. I can't believe they compare those cars to ours, I like those for a 4 door car; just send the power rearward.

I owned an SE-R Spec V before my 8 and I will say this, that car is VERY capable in autox and track. Especially if it is S-Tuned or R-Tuned. In it's R-Tuned state it dynos at 165-170whp and about the same in torque. The suspension package put out by NISMO is top notch. The way it changes the Sentra's handling is like the difference between night and day.

Can it beat a stock 8? Not stock. In it's S-Tuned state it won't have enough power, but R-Tune, you better drive your butt off. Yes an 8 can beat the R-Tune autox/track, but you better, and I repeat, BETTER know how to drive a stock 8 as if it's your hands and feet.

The SE-R Altima is nothing to worry about from what I've seen. I don't know much about the car, but I know Nissans. It's too heavy and does not have the proper "balance" to compete on a track. Now it does perform well for a family car. They should compare the SE-R Altima with the MS6 or Sube Legacy; performance family cars.

Don't underestimate the Spec V. They are VERY true to their SE-R roots.

Ok so now your talking about a modified Sentra vs the 8.

I'll take them on any time. And if there modified, I'll do the same and run circles around them.

All BS Nissan talk from little kids.

Why isn't Road and Track rating the Sentra beetter than the Z?

Wink

HAHAHAHA I know who he is talking about... ME!! hehe. But he is OVER doing the story. True the SE-R's are faster, and yes i did loose. As much as I HATE to ADMIT a loss, i am man enough to say that a loss is a loss and yes he beat me. HOWEVER!! "2 cars and kept pulling away part" is TOTAL BS. When he took off i bogged out in first gear so i lost a whole 2 seconds. Now with a manual you can make a mistake here and there SINCE it was a MANUAL. His was an auto. ALL he has to do is push the gas pedal down.... c'mon..... seriously now.... I think my Dog can do that blind folded. Now he asked me if we should do a rolling start or a dead stop. I made the mistake on saying a dead stop, MY BAD. Second the distance gaining is pretty intense IF the other driver did make a mistake and there fore an AUTO can gain ground (good amount) withing 2 seconds. NOW the distance between the cars was about a WHOLE car gap. As for the gap (gainage) did not happen. It was only one car distance gap that he had and then it seem to have been kept that way. The track wasn't even a 1/4 let alone a 1/8 of a mile. So of course he is going to shout about a "Take OFF" race.... WOW. If your Wins is based on the take off only, then i think thats kinda sad, dont you think? Anyways I did lost but not by THAT much. Even my friend said it wasn't by that much. As for autocross i did exept his challenge and i am trying desprately to get a Saturday off for Autox. That is my side of the story, THANK you. LOL!

P.S. - The Women over at Malibu (Beach) that Saturday..... wow.... seriously.... "wow" it was like watching the swimsuit edition of Sports Illistrated Live

Maybe we should make a separate forum for the street racers.

No. I don't think we need anything that shows this forum condones street racing.

I say just delete them as they show up.

Well I have nothing better to do so I read through that Altima thread. It was good for a few laughs. I just don't get why a 16 year old would be driving an Altima anyway unless it was his parent's car. Do you think a lot of stupid kids are racing their dad's Altima on Friday night?

Anyway I got the feeling from that thread that they didn't realize an RX-8 is capable of turning similar or faster lap times than a Z at the track.
