hey that black rx-8 is me!
sammy thanks again for taking the vids, i'm so stoked about that. but seriously i had a blast on saturday. i'm still a track-newb too and i know there is WAY more time i can cut from my lap time.
case in point: the fastest rx-8 that day was katc10, a girl on this board... she beat me by about 1.5 seconds. but she is on stock suspension, and falken azenis 615s. i am on mazdaspeed springs/shocks, progress sway bars front and rear, and 17 x 9.5 wheels with 245-45-17 nitto NT01s.
I am fairly embarrassed! haha, not really, she is obviously a kick-*** driver. regardless the day was great fun, and that's the whole reason i go out there.
sammy, when's the next one????

Thanks for the nice words!
I unfortunately didn't get any track data the last session when I got my fastest lap either, so I don't even know what my theoretical best lap would have been.
You were doing good, how many track days have you been to? You definitely have some time to shave off, especially when suspension makes the biggest difference in this car's performance, so you surely have the advantage. I do have the Racing Beat sways, they made a big difference with my car. I had a ton of body roll stock, so they helped my confidence a lot. And my tires are only 245, so barely wider than stock, but my goal when I got this car was to improve myself as a driver before I started changing the car, so I will probably continue with this setup for a while more, and then upgrade the suspension and get wider tires, etc in a year or so. Even with my new alignment, I'm still not even getting the best wear from my tires, so I'll have to look into camber adjustments sometime as well.
From my perspective, learning the line is first and foremost, and then work on getting faster. When I go to a new track, for example (Sammy, this is where I reveal my secrets ), I always go for 2 days for one, and I spend the first day just getting to know the track and learning the right lines. Then the second day, I stay on the lines I learned the first day, but I watch my speedo all day, and each lap I try to increase my speed at each corner. It takes a while to get the ***** to push it on high-speed tracks like Buttonwillow, Big Willow, Spring Mtn, etc, and this has proven to be a solid technique for me, especially when I know it's the only time I'm going to get to run that track, so you wind up making the best of the time you have. I highly recommend you guys go for more than one day at a time, it doesn't cost that much more than one day as far as getting there and back and hotels are usually cheap, and plus you get more seat time and get to know the track better. Seat time is the biggest thing, you just gotta get out there and get in the track time, and I'm sure you guys will improve very fast.
I will be there both days at Streets May 10-11, so I hope to see you guys all again, as it will be my last track day in California before I move to the east coast and find some new RX-8s to terrorize! I've never had timing on Streets before either, the first 1.5 years I drove it was with a group that didn't offer timing, so I'll be interested to see how I do, and I'm sure you guys will be kicking my *** on this technical course, so it'll be good motivation for me to step it up!
