SCCA classifies RX-8 in BS

The July issue of Sports Car indicates that the RX-8 has been classified in BStock, where it will compete head to head with the Honda S2000 and Porsche Boxter. That will be a formidible task, since the S2000 has nearly the same torque and horsepower, but 400 less pounds. My opinion is that a DStock classification would be more fair, where it would go head-t0-head with the Acura Integra Type R and RSX-S, the BMW 330ci, and the IS300 Lexus.

With four seats, perhaps STS is a better option until it's reclassed? Hey, it's happened before ;>

Re: SCCA classifies RX-8 in BS

It MAY be allowed into STX, but due to the gear type limited slip differential, it is not allowed in STS.

400lbs? When I subtract 3000 - 2800 I get 200lbs.... Must be some sort of "new math"...

Not entirely...

I'm kinda bummed the automatic isn't in a different class by virtue of 25% less HP.

Old Math

An S2000 in Autocross trim weighs only 2600 lbs. It doesn't appear that an RX-8 in similar trim will be much less than 3000 lbs.

from what i'm told it's going to be exempt from stx, thus it'd end up in bsp

Or, SM (Street Mod). Allows race rubber and a host of modifications we have all been discussing........

Just considering the possibilities.
