Silver State Race - Advice on high speed
I am thinking about entering one of the sactioned open road races like the Silver State Race.* If you aren't familiar with it, these are races where you run 90 miles on a closed highway at a set average speed, depending on your class.* The goal is to exactly hit the required average speed (110 MPH for example) over the distance.* I would take a driving course before I go, but I am curious about the capabilities of the stock Rx-8.I have manual 2005 with everything stock.* No spoiler.I am curious how the car handles at high speed.* Are there any problems running high speeds for long periods?* Does it need stiffer suspension or a spoiler?* How does the stock car handle above 110 MPH?I have only had the chance to open mine up on public (but empty) roads for short periods.* I think the fastest I have had it up to is about 120 MPH.* I know at 100 it feels perfect and could run at that speed with no concerns.

I have long wanted to enter the Silver State Classic, however I live quite a ways away. I don't believe the car would need any mods to run the event. I have had it on track and I have had it, on the interstate, at 100 and above a couple of times for periods of about 1 hr. The fastest I've had it to was 135 and the car started feeling a little weird. I think air was getting trapped underneath and causing lift. A lowered car or adding an front airdam would correct this problem. It felt comfortable at 125.
Signning up for the 100 or the 110 index should be fun. There seems to be a couple of corners that you will have to slow down for.

I would advise upgrading your shocks to konis. Undulations in the road surface at 60mph feel completely different at 100+mph. Koni shocks would help 'settle' the car more quickly than the stockers.

i ran mine from phoenix az to the fairfield going about 130mph to 120mph while i was on the highway going to az the car is stable but all i got to say is gas the car will run thru gas at high speeds for a while. i got mine up to like 145 but it was like a drag and it was taking very long to get up to 147mph. i say u can get about 200 to 180 miles on a tank of gas running at 125mph and up.
