survived my first auto cross
and it was awesome!!!
was in Frederick MD yesterday with the capital driving club. My best time was 42.39, I think the average going on the course was probably like 40 or 40.5. My average time was about 43.5.
I certainly think I need better tires. Snow sports just don't see to hold very well.
Next time I need to try it without the traction control on, totally forgot about it. I did all but my first two runs in sport shift mode and tried to keep my self in 2nd for the straight parts and 3rd for the tight turns so I could keep my foot on the gas without the high RPMs of second making the car surge around the corners. Need to work on this part some more but that will be for next year.
There was one other 8 there.

Congratulations! Those times are pretty good. The course CDC layed out was unusually fast for the Harry Grove lot. Best time I could muster Saturday on a tired set of BFG R1's was 39.something.
Certainly better tires never hurt, but you always learn more with less grip. Teaches you how to keep it at edge of adhesion while maintaining maximum speed. Preserving momentum is the key to fast times. Oh, and the lot was kinda slick.
What color was the RX-8 running on Sunday?
See ya next year!

I grew up in STL and get out there a few times a year. I know there are autocrosses several times a year over at Gateway International Raceway in Illinois. It's only about 10 minutes over the river. Google the web for them and go watch one to see what it's all about. Watching is free.
