SW Florida autocross invite

I posted this in the regional forum but thought this might be the best place to reach autocrossers.

I Just wanted to let everyone know that GCAC has an event this weekend in the Ft Myers FL area.

Saturday is test-and-tune and novice school. (Two separate tracks.) The novice program is great for those who are new to the sport, complete with many instructors and lots of seat time.

Sunday is a points day and we use an entire runway to make a mile long course.

Here is an example of the track..

And here is our website..

Feel free to pm me with any questions.

I've heard a lot about GCAC. One thing I don't understand; is GCAC its own club, or is it part of SCCA?

I always thought it was its own club, sort of like Martin County Car Club, however GCAC uses SCCA classes, and for some reason, often host SCCA Regional events.

I wonder why Central Florida Region SCCA doesn't host Regional events? The airport at Brooksville is a great site!

I've also heard that you get very few runs at GCAC ... around 3 runs per event, and they are all spread out throughout the day. Is there any truth to this?

We are our own club. We use SCCA classes, but we add "novice" classes that require street tires.

I have ran at Brooksville with the corvette club. The pavement is a bit "choppy" but otherwise good.

With <100 drivers, you get four runs. Over 100, is three runs. We do spread them out over the day. I think it has somthing to do with making sure everyone gets a run on dry pavement. (Rather than having a couple classes get rained out comletley, like they had happen at Morroso over the summer.)

how much is "lots of seat time".
Im always down for more seat time, but its gotta be worth it to drive across the state... unless Im dodging hurricane Hannah... which actually has a pretty good chance of happening... let me know.

Saturday is a "test and tune". They give you 3 tokens when you register, and each token is good for a run. Work for half an hour, get 3 more tokens. You can run a LOT on Sat

Sunday is the points event, typically 3 or 4 runs, but the courses are fast (some 3rd gear) and transitional and usually about 70-80 seconds long.

Saturday you can take instructors with you (especially those potentially looking to buy an RX8 for next season *cough* *cough*), and sunday you would have to ride alone.

Usually worth the trip, as they are really fun courses, and lotsa good competition.

Hopefully see you there!

Thanks Jay,

BTW, I just double checked with Dave, and he says it's 2 tokens per.

That's cool, 2...3...it's runs

Now, as long as he will recognize me as an instructor and let me take passengers, all will be well with the world

I don't think it will be a problem.

Not to deviate too much from the great and well reputed GCAC club. I hear they have some of the best competition in the state, but ...

If you're looking for more runs than usual, CFR SCCA West always has around 6 to 8, and often has as many as you can handle, if you stay for fun runs later in the afternoon. The only caveat is that you have to sign up at least two weeks in advance.

Here is a great site for autocross events in central Florida. The link I pasted below is a sticky thread which details the autocross event schedule. It also has links to all the local clubs, of which there are many.
