I made the same argument while on the SEB and it fell on deaf ears. If they *really* want to do sound enforcement then you need two meters, one on both sides of the course that the cars pass by simultanously to eliminate the noise direction games. What it really comes down to is nobody takes sound enforcement seriously. It's just a tool to say you're doing what you can to address it. While I understand KC's sentiment, IMO you can't blame the competitors from doing whatever it takes to pass. It's the organizer's responsibility to to implement methods that minimize or avoid circumvention.

Tell me, how does that keep the sound down at a site that has neighbors that want the site gone because of the sound? You're not doing anyone any favors when you do something like that, if anything accellerating the loss of the sites. At our region, if that were the case, you'd be asked to never come back, it's that bad.

A race track is no different, but it's a race track and you can kind of expect there to be noise. Auto-x uses available lots, with many more neighbors.

Do your region a favor, and make it legal no matter where the meter is. If you don't, that's how lots disappear and in the very least make it difficult to aquire new ones.
I think you're awfully presumptuous to state that I'm putting our site at peril. Our chiefs are more than adequate at taking care of it themselves. If you saw above, there was only one time that I was above the limit-the others were comfortably below and that was at a much shorter distance of thirty feet than your requirement of 75. That distance would have left me well below your limits.

A turndown will also allow me to direct the flow to the ground rather than out to the open air. With a good distance between our site and the closest housing, I feel confident that it won't create any difficulties. If it does, our region will definitely keep me from running until a substantial improvement is made. They, however, didn't feel that that was necessary because it was consistently below the limit.

If i'm wrong, I'll be big enough to let you know so that you can get back up on your soap box.

No apologies here. Sound is a big issue facing many regions. It's up to those that participate that need to make sure they're doing their part, while they still can.

Sorry to see you got your panties in a bunch over a problem that affects most of us out here with losing sites, or not being able to get quality sites.

I got a DB reading on my system at yesterdays event..... 88.9 db @ 50'. That was the peak reading in 1st gear flat out past the meter. They had it just after the first turn in a long strait. Also went by it in 2nd gear one run and the reading was a tad lower.
