Takata Drift II snap in 4 point street harness
I made this thread a little while ago
https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-racing-...stions-242870/
BEFORE I BEGIN, THIS BELT WILL ONLY BE USED IN AUTOX ENVIRONMENTS. I am fully aware of the risks associated with using a harness without a roll bar/cage.
Do everyone a favor and spare the endless pages of chatter back and forth discussing why they are not the best idea in a crash scenario. This topic gets beaten to death way too many times.
Also i know about the locking method with the seatbelt and chair, apparently i didnt do it right when i tried to get it to work. Either way.. whatever.
I decided to go with Takata belt over the Schroth for a few reasons.
1. The Takata belts have a feature not available on the Schroth belts which is a snap in feature used for hooking into eyebolts. This makes it easier to remove when not in use compared with Schroth's bolt in system (which Takata also makes)
Schroth uses this type of bolt in system with the Rallye 4,
2. Takata also makes a bendable snap on ring that looks very similar to the bolt in attatchment. They can be bent (only bend it once!) for tight places. The snap on belts can hook onto these holes like they would eyebolts.
Both Schroth and Takata are certified to be used on the street (which they will not be used on the street for me, only autox)
Both Schroth and Takata have the ASM feature, which resists submarining in the seat in the event of a collision, i will provide a video below to demonstrate how this works. It basically makes your body rotate just enough where you dont slip under the belt... youll see in the video below.
this shows the harness with an airbag
With 04 Green's permission id like to use his pictures here for people referencing on how to hook in their harness. For now, you can click on the link to the other thread that i made where he showed pictures.
this is from Takatas website referencing where you should mount them.
For you R3 owners out there, or people with R3 seats, Takata also makes a 3inch version with a 2inch lap belt. 2 inches is the max for use on the stock rotor crested rx8 seat. The 3inch belt will not fit through the rotor shaped hole. Dont attempt this, it can be dangerous in the event of an accident.
I will be adding detailed step by step instructions when the belt arrives and I install it. Lots of pictures! Maybe this will get moved to the DIY section, but for now ill leave it here until i get a chance to install it.
I found the best price to be from our vendor THMotorsports and ordered the Drift II snap in belt in green with 2 sets of the bendable attachments. This means 4 total attachments.
The Drift series belts come in either snap on or bolt in for both the 2inch belt version and the 3 inch belt version. Both versions come in a green or black colorway.

Whats in the box? I got the harness and 2 baggies that i ordered seperately with the bendable thingys.
In the picture in the manual, it shows the snap on style coming to a point in the back, 04Green had his belt going straight up to the upper baby anchor and then down to the seatbelt attachment point. But my seatbelt just came like how the bolt in style comes.
Im not sure if i am going to install it like 04Green or just cross them and put them into the seatbelt point and the seatbelt buckle point and call it a day.
opinions?

Alright, so i installed the belt the day after i got it... Im sorry for not updating the thread earlier.
The install went okay except for a few things...
The snap in "hook" or whatever you want to call it... the metal triangle shaped piece that hooks in... did not want to pass through the center rotor crest hole in the seat...
I walked away from it pissed off and then came back 15minutes later and put some pressure on clip trying to get it through. Giving it a slight amount of force, it slipped into the rotor crest hole a piece of cake. It only left a scratch about 1mm long and gave 2 pressure dents that are NOT noticable whatsoever when the belt is in the hole. Unless you are looking for it and are within 6" away from the crest, you wont tell that there was any damage.
The second issue i had is where i mounted the belt. I crossed the belts and tied them into the back seat anchor points.. 1 where the female seat belt clip went and the other where the seatbelt anchors towards the bottom. The use of the bendable snap ins are required for the seatbelt anchor position.
Also i believe using an eyebolt on the anchor point towards the center console on the driver seat should be used instead of the bendable snap in.
anyway here are the pics!
i found a dollar in between my seat when doing the install... the mod that gives back!
This is the female side of the seatbelt anchor point. an eyebolt can be used here instead if wanted.
this is the other side where the belt anchors to. must use bendable snap in system.
this is the front, facing the outside of the car. I think this is okay, it works fine.. an eyebolt can be used here instead if wanted.

for autox I still use the OE belt with my Kirkey road race seat, lol
I have a new 6-point belt kit sitting on the shelf, but since you can't delete the OE belt under the STX rules then why add the weight?
