Taking the Pro out of ProSolo

Taking the Pro out of ProSolo
I haven't gotten my letter yet, but have heard about what's in it. What a crock. I wonder if National has a "rehab" contingency if any or all of the six regions they think are going to host events drop out.

What a freakin' mess...too bad, Pro is a blast.
The only thing that's going to save it is if we all make an effort to let the noobs know how much fun it is. I ran my first Pro's last year, simply because I had a few friends in the region clue me in. Fact is, it is much easier to run a Pro as your first event than it is to run a Tour.
I'd hate to see it go away.

As a relative newb to ProSolo (ran my first event last season), I can honestly say that the format change for some events next season sounds like the worst of both worlds. The part I enjoyed the most about ProSolo was lining up against my competition. The part I liked the least was the tree (Yay! I had a great run… but I left the start two-thousandths of a second too soon, so DNF for me ) and the equipment-munching drag start. Having a regular Solo course (for all intents and purposes) with a tree and a drag start doesn’t interest me.
I only hope that the Texas Region/Equipe Rapide Pro that was planned for ’07 doesn’t feature this format, or I’ll have to think long and hard about wasting my time and money to attend.

I just got the letter earlier today. It pretty much looks like the death of ProSolo as we know it...
I have to pretty much completely agree with altiain. I only ran one last season and it was a damn blast (my first prosolo). However, the utter rape on the poor RX8's clutch was not something I particularly welcome, and I don't see myself paying for the privilege of a half-assed combination of Solo 2 with a drag start. The RX-8 is not a drag car.

Nah, that would make too much sense.

So if we could use a race clutch what part down stream do you think would break?
23k miles, 2 years worth of Prosolo with 2 drivers..... Still on the stock clutch, diff, trans, brakes etc.

But you're right, Jason, that strengthening the clutch only leaves other drive-train components to die. I'm never going to be real good at this game, so I'll settle for a healthy original clutch and 4000 rpm drops. It's still fine (CodingParadox's opinion to the contrary notwithstanding) 40,000 miles later, which includes perhaps 4,000 miles of track time, and a couple hundred autocross runs.

A newbs perspective - I had hoped to run at least one prosolo event this season, as I have never done it. I liked the idea of going mano a mano aginst your class rivals. But now I think I'll save my tires or try to go to a national tour event instead. I am not going to hard launch my daily driver - against itself. That's pointless.

changed my OE clutch during the last trans replacement since it was already going to be apart, despite numerous Pro Solo events with multiple drivers using 6000 - 8000 rpm drops it didn't show much wear, kind of a waste to have replaced it but I had no ide when I ordered the parts because it wasn't apart yet, kept it as a spare
looks like I one OE clutch would last me through at least six transmissions
