Tire pressure?
#26
Well, IMHO, if you aren't chalking or taking tread temps, you're just shooting in the dark when it comes to setting pressures, assuming you want to fully utilize the grip of the tire.
I've only had the TPMS light come on when my pressures were excessively high (more than 50 psi). Even then, it takes some time for it to come on.
Yes the Dunlop SSR's are r-compound tires, having a treadwire of 40 I think. That being said, they are not as grippy as any of the autox tires. They are probably comparable to the Hoosier RS series.

I have two sets of wheels. I run the stock Potenza's on stock wheels on the street, and the SSR's on some cheap alloys for autox and track. Why the SSR's over the RT615 et al? Because the SSR's are much better.
In terms of grip, it breaks down like:
r-compound autox tires (Kuhmo V710, Hoosier AS305, etc)
r-compound road racing tires( Victoracer, Dunlop SSR, Hoosier RS305, Pilot Sport Cup)
sticky non-r-compound, 140 treadlife (S03's, etc)
everything else.
