for track you cannot beat the xp 8 for the front and the panters for the back. that way you only have to swap out the fronts for track time. they can be driven on the street(do squel a little cold but it scares folks so thats good!) and what i do is install them 3 days before the track time--drive them normally and then you dont have to bed them in. takes about 40 minutes to swap them out. they modulate great which is really a good thing to have with trail braking.
I run 17' tires on the track(sure makes a differance in the jump out of the corners) and a short tire(235/40/17 RA 1's. They are shaved. Great workhorse of a tire. A used set i got for $300 lasted well past 8 track days(4 hpde solo events). This yr I have switched to the hoosier R 6's. a 225/45/17--dont laugh hooseirs run wide for their size. got them from Hogcar who had them for one hpde w/e and sold them for $200. Point is you dont have to spend a lot for good track tires. Look around, look in the back of Grassroots magizine at the used race tire vendors--lots of good used track tires out there. Heck at the last event i was at (Road ATlanta) the tire guys were selling used tires for $5 apiece on the last day of the event.

DPE--vendor on this forum is THE BEST when it comes to commitment to their customers. One time they offered to take their brake shoes off their car and let me use them if the shipment they were expecting did not come in before my track event. Serious---THATS customer service. Use them--- tell I mention their name if you like.
