i guess what in meant by that statement was i never noticed when one seemed more apparent then the other to me. because when i autoXed my friends 8 it seems very torquey over the horsepower. but then when i was just playing around on the street with my boyfriends 8 it seemed the horsepower seemed more apparent.
with mine i never noticed the torque or horsepower standing out one over the other.

Lily,
Relative to the OZ Lancer, you may feel like the RX8 is a powerful car. But, the RX8 is not a fast car, nor is it torquey, nor is it a good car for the dragstrip. It is rather, mediocre if not lackluster for those purposes.
It is, however, a purpose built car for the road course or for cone dodging. It is a momentum car for these- meaning, there ain't much power, so shed as little speed as possible while flowing through the course.
If you're ever exposed to driving an 11 second (1/4 mile) daily driver, your perspective for speed will change completely. If you're ever going WOT down the back straight at Sebring and you're pointing by a conga line of powerful cars, you then realize that you're indeed driving a slow car relative to everything else. When that well driven Spec Miata or regularly driven 350Z becomes your equal in laptimes, then your perspective towards speed focuses on what the car is capable of given your driving ability.

idk i guess i just question because i enjoy driving my boyfriends 8 and i'm trying to figure them out better. i've been around 10 sec cars and what not i'm a motorhead, just til i started dated my bf i really care for the 8. so now that i am, i'm trying to understand his car like he is mine. mutual respect in a sense i guess if thats what you wanna call it.

waterloo is about 2 hours from me which would be about 4-5 hours from my boyfriend. so yeah that wouldn't work that well because i doubt he'll put those miles on his 8.
and yeah scca is covered in both my area and his, but every scca does there tracks differently. the scca i first ever drove an 8 on sucked! our courses are very tight and turny and idk maybe nebraska's would be better for the 8 because there courses are more open.
i knew we had scca because i autox my OZ.

Look into NASA www.nasaproracing.com to see if they offer any HPDE's in your region. I'm sure they must. It's a great, organized, educational springboard to begin tracking your car and learn to be a well informed driver in terms of negotiating a road course.

Also,
I've noticed tech getting looser and looser every time I go. Mentality is - the more things they look at/review at tech, the more they're responsible for in case of an incident due to malfunction. They won't touch your car with a 10' pole. They will check the helmet.

yes the 8 is more powerful then my OZ obviously there is a lot of difference.

yeah i knew what that one, but thats near nebraska in council bluffs (which is where my boyfriend is out by) but not me personality. so he might run it but i probably wouldn't get the chance to because usually my autoXs fall on same days nebraska's does. that and nebraska is about 4-5 hours from me.![Frown](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)

I'm sorry... but your sentences (ramblings) don't make any sense to me. This sentence for example:

just trying to understand and have a greater respect for my boyfriends 8. sorry.

Also, most of us could care less about each other's personal motivations for being on this site - this isn't MySpace.
Other than that, don't feel unwelcomed- there's plenty of tech info here which is really helpful. You just have to use some common sense as to how to go about posting your questions.
Command of the unabbreviated written language is also appreciated. Many of us here don't type with our thumbs on a daily basis (it's a generation gap thing).

...Google can be your friend too Lily. If the search function isn't working for you on this forum, you can always use Google to find answers to some of your questions.
Sometimes it is best to be shy....and just read.
To get the thread back on track....I've only had one experience with HPDE, and only 2.5 seasons of auto-x. The experience I had with HPDE was codriving a friend's 8. I was nervous, to say the least. I've never been worried while at an autocross event. I guess the decision for me has been twofold. One, I feel safer at the autox. Two, the California Speedway is only 3 miles from my home...so there is no significant time or driving issue to get out to the track.
I will add this though....when I try to describe to people what autox is all about, they usually respond in a demeaning tone "you mean you race around cones in a parking lot".....I then try to defend myself by showing them youtube video's of a friend racing around with a camera mounted in his car.....still, they are not impressed.
...but, for those who have come out for practice days, and who have sat in the car to experience a lap or two....they generally have greater respect. For those that have come out to experience an actual championship event, they see why it is so addicting. The competitition and friendships is what make autocross what it is.
Imagine doing an autocross with no timers.....how many would be interested in doing that month after month to see if they could make personal improvements with their driving skills.
