track/street gauge readings

That sounds like the one I used. Its goes from the water pump area through the firewall. It runs between the intake manifold and the washer fluid tank.

i used rb ones. so far no problems on this end. hottest day here so far has been 85F and the absoulute hottest the water temps has been 200F when i have been sitting in traffic or moving under 30mph. cools off well with just a little speed down to 170-180. cool ambeint air i'm afraid is just compensation for a inadequete "high performance" cooling system. Im on the track the end of this month. it should be in the 90's then.
I am still surprised on how long the oil takes to warm.
any others?

I know , I know I was really trying to show the reflection of my 18 days to the next track day banner hanging outside of my house but I missed the shot because I took a swallow of my Bud light and my wife was threatening to hit me with the yard rake, when I pushed the button--but what the heck--got the top part of the gauges in it. Ahhhh--memories.

Wife for my 60th birthday is taking me to Bondurant's 3 day advance road racing class on May 15t - 17 and on Saturday the 20th I will be at Moroso for a one day HPDE and Time TRial. Gave up for a while on instructing.

not a problem. when you set in the drivers seat you can still see the passenger side front fender edge, edge of hood etc. i used the 2 5/8 gauges. smaller gauges could be installed in this manner.

Good to hear that Jay--you go dude.
Blue I will post the steps this weekend. I will send you a pm with my phone number so if you dont understand anything or run into problems you can give me a call.
So far , so good on the street temp readings guys. Yesterday ambient temp was 88 here, drove about 20miles in 35-45 mph speed limit roads. Coolant temp never reached 200, oil temp was 180. Thats with A/c off --so no fans. I am running 65/35 coolant mixture. 5/20 RP oil.(at this time) changing to 5/30 in approx 2 wks.

Ok all, i promised to report back from a track day event with my gauges install. here it is.
This past w/e our group were at Roebling road, close to Savannah Ga. The ambiet temp for Saturday was 94F. The ambiet temp for Sunday was 100F. (this was utilizing our on board outside temp readings--and no i didnt take a reading after the car was parked for a while, I moved it and allowed the air to reach it 1st.) I was running Royal Purple 5W/30 oil.
Fast laps. I have 17's for the track allowing me to run the entire track , except for the straight where I go to 5th, in 4th gear--average rpm's are around 7k car never goes below 4.5k. Its a 2.03 mile track-- co club members say I was actually pulling on a super stauker--so you could say I was pushing it a little. Front straight speeds where at 124-125.
Found these things out--
SATURDAY --ambiet temp 94f
1- oil temps are very sensitive to rpm vs speed(no brainer --right), so on a track in which your gearing makes you have to keep her revs high the oil is going to get hot--and fast,
2- Since my gearing was really good for this track my temps were not a problem at all.
on Saturday highest oil temp recorded was 230F---i played in 3nd gear some to see what would happen and temps shot up after 2 turns to 236F--stayed in 4th the next lap and temps stayed steady.
3- Coolant temp NEVER got over 210F--no matter what.
Sunday --ambiet temp 100F
1- Surprising --no change. Oil temps never higher than 230--unless I got VERY agressive and used 3nd gear more--passing traffic on a short straight etc--then it did climb to 240F
BUT it would cool on the long straight to between 220-230F
2 Coolant temp--- never over 210F ---period.
So track temps for me are not a problem. I think Dino oil may heat a little higher than the RP--at least that is what the litature says.
Interesting on the way home temp had fallen to 94 F on the interstate at a steady 4K(18's wheels back on) approx 75-80mph the oil temps were 200F
Thats my story and I am sticking to it!
Temps for me are not yet a problems. But please remember high revs/slow speeds make it much worst.
Oh yea I have mechanical gauges--autometer pro comp liquid filled.

Life of the oil --I dont know--I change mine after a track w/e(we do about 200--300 miles) Old racers at the track told me not to worry about any temp under 250. Some said under 300!
Blue --I think we have adequete capacity for cooling on the track if the car is driven correctly and not overreved a lot.
For the street--still under investigation. If anything it is an airflow issue-- which may not be fixable and may need a better radiator. If you FI good ahead and get a better radiator.
