Trailer Hitch?

I'd like to get a trailer (and hitch) for AutoX events. Sounds like someone was having issues with the Dalan hitch.

Any other options out there? Anything that doesn't attach to the floor pan, but something more solid?

What about hidden hitches? I'd really like this thing to be invisible when not in use. First glance at the back of my 8, how does one add a hitch without messing up the rear boddy work?

Thanks

Search custom hitch. Someone made one that went through the rear rotor symbol.

Da'Lan makes a hitch, one person had a problem but they seemed to have offered a change to supposedly correct it

Im a wd for Curt hitches and they have told me in the past that with enough interest they can make custom apps. If there are 15 or 20 people interested, they may consider it, but i dont see that many people being interested.

With that said, id look for a cheap truck or find a freind with one that likes to watch autox events

You must not be a very busy dealer. They already make a hitch for the 8. Curt MFG makes the dalan hitch. :o

btw, check the post with the warning about the RX8 hitch: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=62703

Reviving this old thread to ask: what is the consensus on hitch options for pulling a tire trailer on an RX8? I found these two options recently (11-14-05):

Dalan hitch (from hitch-web.com):
SKU #: 372816 , CLASS I RECEIVER, 1-1/4" Square Receiver with Ballmount, 25 pounds, $228.10

Draw-Tite hitch (from Draw-Tite.com):
p/n: DA247472, RECEIVER HITCH, 27.00 lbs, $187.02

Questions:

EDIT: Found this info from another thread:
on www.Uhaul.com, I entered my car info "2004 Mazda RX8", and it showed up with 1 hitch available, black Sportframe class 1 hitch, model #247472. On www.hitch-web.com, it shows the Dalan hitch for $228.10 that others in this thread have bought, then when I pulled up the PDF, it showed exact same model number as the Uhaul hitch, #247472 from Dalan. So I called Uhaul and they confirmed that their hitch is Dalan, #247472, but they would charge $225 + tax, including the hitch AND installation AND 7-10 day delivery to the Uhaul location that would install it, but NOT including the ball mount or wiring for lights. This sounds like a better deal than getting one from hitch-web.com with installation included. Any thoughts? I'm planning to order it this monday.
EDIT2: The custom hitch with the receiver going thru the rear rotaty symbol is PIMP. I might just build my own that way... I am going to start gathering supplies.

Has anyone had a Uhaul trailer hitch installed on their RX8. I want to use it for a two bike rack. How low does the hitch hand down? Thanks for any help. A photo would be even better

Series I or II? I have a friend not on the forum with a series II who just got the U-Haul.

Most impressive hitch I've seen for the -8 was this custom job that exited the rotary symbol in the back valance. Used the bumper itself instead of bolting to the trunk floor pan, and the hitch shank was removable for appearance sake:

Completed hitch before rear bumper cover reinstalled

I got the Da'lan hitch through U-haul. It comes out level with the bottom of the rear valence (below the rotory symbol). One word of caution, it may not clear some aftermarket exhausts.
