Wankel Challenge

Wankel Challenge
Hey I brought up the idea of starting a Wankel Challenge. Something similar to the s2000, miata and corvette challenges that Speed Ventures is currently running. I have had the thread up on Rx7club.com and had some interest. Just wondering if the Rx8 community would be willing to compete with fellow rotary enthusiasts . I am currently talking to Dave from Speed Ventures and they are looking for more challenges to start and they had RX challenge is mind so I thought I would name it Wankel Challenge and leave it open to any rotary? What do you guys think? And the main concern right now is discussing how will we categorize the groups or classes. I was thinking something like Redline Time Attack (Street NA, Street Turbo, Unlimited) something small to start with. Street classes are only allowed a few mods and must run on street tires. Unlimited is for those who are modded like crazy and running R comps. Here is the link to the Rx7 thread to get you guys an idea of what people have in mind. You don't have to post on the Rx7Club.com you can just simply post here I will be bouncing from rx7 to the rx8 club

I was thinking at least start with Streets of Willow, Big Willow, Button Willow, and AutoClub Speedway? Some people said they wouldn't do Big Willow though so I don't know. It is up to all of us what we want. Not my decision.

I'm down for this!!!!
I've competed in both - the Miata Challenge and S2K Challenge. We usually ran on Thunderhill, Willow Springs (Streets and Big Track), Laguna Seca, Buttonwillow, California Speedway Oval, and etc.
I love how the categories were set up and it was really well planned by the folks on the s2ki.com and/or clubroadster.net
Where do I sign up......eh....for the street class....since my RX8 is not quite in race trim hahaha.

I like the idea but I get the impression that this is a pretty localized type event by the tracks suggested.
And I hate the categories for redline style time attacks. I think classing should be done strictly based on power:weight. NASA does classing on this type of system and it makes for close competition within a section. Use a standard dyno setup, be it mustang or dynojet and have a set of scales at the track to keep everyone honest.
Would love to see this around the midwest. There are a lot of great tracks here. Road America, Blackhawk Farms, Autobahn, Grattan, Putnam, Mid-Ohio, Gingerman...

But I am sure you will find people that would do it.

Sorry I don't want to seem like a dick but then what the hell was the purpose of your post? Bragging cause you wheel to wheel and no longer do time attacks? Congrats.
For those who still want to do a regular HPDE event and get point bys and at the end of the day or maybe mid day have a time attack session please continue posting. We have a list of people who are interested in the rx7club so if you could start a list here.

If anyone can appreciate racing against a clock instead of direct competition its me, been autocrossing for 16+ years. I think the time attack concept it great, I just have zero interest in taking my daily driver - which is not equipped with what I consider adequate safety equipment for the track - out there. The problem is not the time attack, it is the practice sessions prior that always involve the typical track day BS, being held up in the turns by slow guys who pull you on the straits - find a way to fix that and you have the perfect event.
