Went to Sac Raceway - 1/4mile Thread
Well i told myself I would not take the 8 drag racing, thats what my stang is for. But since the stang is down pending the T trim upgrade, i was itchin for some racing.
Best time day was 14.61@94.56 MPH, 60'ft - 2.01 (with some wheelhop)
Ill post the timeslips once i can get them scanned.
I ran 7 runs
14.83@93.38MPH ( Temp was 103Degrees outside)
14.87@93.65MPH ( Temp still 103 )
15.17@87.45MPH ( MIssed 4th )
15.23@93.82MPH ( 2.38 60' time - spun the **** outta the whole )
14.74@94.03MPH ( Temp cooled down to 94Degrees )
Let the car cool off for the next hour -
14.68@94.31MPH ( Temp was at 89 degrees )
Last run of the night and best run
14.61@94.56MPH (Temp cooled off to 83 degrees )
I think with some cooler weather...say 70 degrees i can see 95.5 to 95.6 MPH. Maybe squeak out a 14.50.
My car is bone stock, i lowered the PSI in the tire to 28psi.
All in all im happy with the way the car performed.
Ill post the timeslips when i can get them scanned.
One dispointing thing of the day was bieng beat by a civic hatchback that went 14.1
I found optimal results were launching the car at 6.5k rpms and feathering the clutch trying to get as little wheel hop as possible. This care LOVES to wheelhop. The entire key to this car is the wholeshot..

Not bad. What's your trim? Touring? Sport? Base?
I'd recommend aftermarket struts (shocks/damers whatever you choose to call them). It SHOULD take care of that.
Pair that with drag tires, an intake and a midpipe and you should be able to beat that Civic. I think...

Lower your rear tire pressure even further to about 22-23 psi and up the fronts to 45. Launching mine at autocross I feel like it should be able to pull a 1.9 60 foot fairly easily even on the stock bridgestones to a 14.4 @ 95-96 mph.

Ya Im kinda mad at myself lol. Now i got the itch to see how fast i can get this car to go in the 1/4. I told myself i wasnt gonna do it.
Next time I go out Ill lower the tire pressure down some more.
Also I will look into the strut tower bar.
I also want to try and find some winter rims ( the 16" ones if im not mistaken ) to drop some wieght and to allow for drag radials.
Oh my car is a fully optioned GT with Sunroof, Leather, DVD, Appearence package. Basically every option.
If i can cure the wheep hop and get the 16" rims and drag radials, i dont see why i cant hit a 1.8ish 60' time launching around 7.5k rpms or higher. I just dont want to break the car. I dont know how strong the half shafts are in these things.
But well see
Midpipe to come soon, then shocks. Ill keep everyone updated onthe progress. I would like to be able to hit consisten high 13's but I dont see that happening without a Canzoomer tuner i dont think.

I found a great article on weight reduction translating to gains in torque and horsepower. http://www.tprmag.com/issue/16/light_club.shtml
Check the formulas in the right column. They calculate that on a stock 350Z, if you can drop 200 lbs off, the equivalent power gain would be about 17.74hp and 12.2 lb/ft of torque.
This is pretty much in keeping with what I've heard in the past. Every 10 pounds you can drop is equal to 1 extra horse.
Take the jack out of the car. Boom.. 1 more HP. Take the passenger seat out.. that's got to be good for at least 5 HP. Swap the cat for a midpipe (much lighter) that's got to be 2 more HP (plus the 5 it adds). Put on a titanium catback.. another 2 HP in weight plus maybe another 3 in reduced backpressure.
There's 18 more HP right there.
Oh yeah.. gasoline weights in at about 8 pounds per gallon.

Yep get the rb sways and konis--very little if anywheel hop.
I dont think you will find 16's that will clear the disc's but some 17's will and then run a 35-40 series tire and you will have dropped your ratio to the point tht you will probaly need 4th gear before the stripe. MAYBE. Light 17's rims and light tires(35/40 series) can drop 10 lbs per corner! Dont run over a 245 on the back--wont need it. Run as small of a tire up front as you can--and pump it up as high as you can. Put synthetics in the diff /trans and engine, run a pre mix, get an underdrive pulley(agency works well) and put a better airfilter in the stock box(which is pretty good from the factory). Run the a/c UNTIL you pull up to the lights(it turns on the fans) with out the fans on the temps can go up 20 degrees while waiting on a redlight ! get some 10/90 shocks for up front if you can find them. Take out the passenger seat , the rear seats(easy to do) drain the windshield washer fluid(15lbs!) get a light battery, remove the jack trunk insulation (easy to do), and run with only 1/8 tank of gas, do a throttle body bypass mod, electric grounding kit, light flywheel(realy help your 0-60ft times). Make sure your coils and sparkplugs are in great shape.
You have consistant times--been doing this awhile--right? Do all that stuff and you will have a close to 13 sec car.

Yes I have been doing this a while. If you look in my sig i have a mid 10 second car that i frequently race...when its not down
Anyways im not going to be removing anything in the intererior
So the 16" Mazda winter rims that are optional on the 8's wont clear the 6speed brakes?
Also the exhaust, for the wieght savings is a great idea, but i dont want it to be too loud.
I ordered my RB swaybars, gonna order the shocks and springs soon.
im gonna get everything from RB

IIRC sac raceway is pretty slick. could the slick surface actually help the 8 a little to make a bit of wheelspin easier on launch? i remember some tests of the S2000 when it came out where they had wildly differing 0-60 times depending on whether it bogged or not.
a friend of mine races a 2nd gen ford probe at sac- his best is an 11.89 with its 2.5L v6 and a little bottle. the rx8 is such a great car but no drag racer!

i think that the rx8 does very good in every aspect,and a mid 14sec car is not super fast and it aint slow for what it is.
