I'm looking for a tranny for road racing.
a friend told me that the rx8 comes with real close ratio gears.

anyone knows what are the gear ratios for the 6 speed RX8?

also will it take the abuse of road racing, I have a FC w/PP eng. in the 300's HP.
with 5.12 rear end.

 

1st --- 3.760
2nd --- 2.269
3rd --- 1.645
4th --- 1.187
5th --- 1.000
6th --- 0.843
Reverse-- 3.564

Final -- 4.44

 

there is a Japan spec (?) 5 speed available, I'm not sure how the gearing compares

 

iirc the jspec 3rd gear is actually taller...

 

There a miata 6 speed on ebay. but it doesn't look like it will bolt up.
will I need to change the bell housing?
will I need to change flywheel, cluch + plate?
I dont see a starter.

You would be the pioneer on this ‘mod ‘; the only gear on that trans that is different is 4th. The Miata’s is 1.257 vs. the 8’s 1.187. Based on all the custom work you might have to do wouldn’t it be cheaper to just get a used rx-8 6-speed?

 

It's going into an FC.
I have a TII in it now but I want the xtra gear a 6 speed will provide. I will only use 2-5 in racing.
I've heard the prob in the RX8 is from 1-2 gear, which I'm not going to use.
and I also heard the RX8 tranny comes with 3 syncros just like the FD and is just as strong.

 

in concept it's basically the FD trans with a 6th gear and some upgrades like the synchros etc, the shifters don't line up between the two though, different tail housing lengths I believe, it's tailored for a different application/chassis
