What mods can you do and stay in BS?
Just started autoxing and I'm addicted. Car is completely stock and besides the extra hole in the FSB and lighter tires and wheels, what else can you do and stay in BS? This is also my daily driver so staying in BS seems like the way to go.

What you can do:
Light wheels, stock size, +/- 1/4" offset.
Any size DOT tire that fits the stock wheel.
Any front swaybar, that also includes the front links and bushings.
Shocks, up to double adjustable with remote res.
Any cat-back exhuast.
Drop-in air filter.
Ignition, coils, wires and plugs are open.
Thermostat.
Fluids.
Brake pads.
Alignment.
Just because you can do all these things, does not mean have to, or that they will make your car faster.

Alignment, exhaust, shocks, air filter, harness, brake pads, wheels, tires, fsb extra hole. Pads, harness, light wheels, air filter and FSB not that important. The exhaust is important because it sounds so much better at WOT.

I just popped my autox cherry!!!
I got some funs in with a local group (non SCCA). It was really exciting. I ran the car just as I got it off the show room floor 6 weeks ago. The car was excellent and I feel it was able to go much faster than I was driving it.
Hopefully I can get into one of those autox classes soon. I need to learn a lot.

otoh the comment above about the front air dam is only correct if you add the entire appearance pkg. (includes side "flares" and rear aero do dads)

The Scions are a prime example of this, about half the items you can select when you order one are port installed, which is legal, others are dealer installed and not legal.
You are correct on the body parts, the whole kit must be used as if it were put on at the factory. The rear wing (standard wing not Mazdaspeed) is a stand alone option, which can be added to any trim level.

The spare is dealer installed, it does not matter at what point in the process it is purchased. Only parts installed at the factory, or port, are stock legal.

The spare tire is a FACTORY option. I know because when I was looking, the spare tires showed up on the factory sticker and showed up in the online inventory. It was not on the dealer add on sticker. At least during 2004. It's availability may of changed since of course.
Same thing happens with all the Scion goodies, they are on the sticker but they are dealer installed.
Why do you think it is cheaper to buy the kit after the fact than with the car... You are paying for the dealer to install it. Atleast Scion is up front and tells you there will be additional charges for _____ part to be installed. Mazda just lets you think it is a factory installed part.

Sorry but you are wrong about the spare tire on the 2004 (for absolute sure). I have seen it in person on the factory sticker. Not a dealer add-on, no additional cost/fees. Dealership in Montgomery had a fetish for ordering the cars with the spare tire and 6disk cd player. I saw the sticker on more than one car before any pdi, straight off the truck showing the spare tire on the sticker. It showed up in the online inventory too. Multiple dealers across the SE. Call mazda see if the online inventory lists dealer installed options. Bet a quarter it doesn't.
Lots of the options are available both from the factory and as dealer installed extras. If it comes as a factory option there is no dealer cost added.
Like I said they may of changed the availablity now but for 2004 at least the spare tire was a genuine factory option.
You're making me want to spend the money just so you can have a diversion at Nationals protesting.
